Sometimes after a couple of hours and sometimes during start up. I don't think its worth a hundred dollar repair. Anything I can do? Its a few years old but has always worked well until now.

If cleaning dust, viruses and spyware don't do the trick, it may still be overheating. A cheap possible cure is a lap desk. There are ones made out of plastic that prop up the computer and increase the air circulation, and ones that actually have fans that plug into your usb ports to cool down your pc. You can also try operating your pc without the battery. Good luck.

Yea, clean out the fans, but run a spyware/virus check also check your battery/a/c addapter to see if they are going bad. Also the D/C jack in the motherboard might be going bad. Its a hard thing to diagnose without actually seeing the computer, but I deal with dead laptops or ones with similer problems as this everyday . I am a certified PC Tech. Bring it to a Geek Squad or some place like that.

My guess is it is getting very hot. Those battery packs put out a lot of heat. Make sure the fan/vent is clean and air is flowing through. Don't keep it on your lap and try to prop the corners up on something so there is some airflow underneath.

If none of that helps then try calling tech support for more suggestions.
