For some its risky because it can cause mental health problems for others it can help with illness .Its a tricky one because you will always get people who take it too much .In moderation I think its OK but like anything else you have to get the balance right.Maybe it should be on prescription for people who use to ease symptoms of illness and for those who use it recreationally have legal venues where use is moderated/sensibly controlled, without criminalisation. That would get rid of some of the dodgy element. But I believe the drug laws need a complete overhaul anyway and sooner rather than later.

I'm a regualr cannabis user and not ashamed of it! They're a plenty of pros; cheaper than drinking, no reported deaths, people do not get violent after using it, it can be taken in a variety of ways, its really good fun etc.
However I'm well aware that they're are as many cons to balance the arguement such as; paranoia, vomitting, it is illegal, it can cause mental illness and dependency, it can introduce people to harder more dangerous drugs.
Any substance which alters your mental state has the potential to be dangerous, take alcohol as an example. You lose inhibitions, some people become violent, others become depressed, it can lead to long term health problems, accidental injury or even death. I believe that if you find a means by whcih to relax and have fun then enjoy it in moderation. Anything pushed to the limits will have negative effects. I work with people with brain injuries, the vast majority of our out of hours work involves alcohol, either alcoholics with head injuries, drink drive accidents, assults. You don't see these injuries associated with cannabis use. Neither do you see images in the media of stoned people causing trouble in the street after a night out. I don't think cannabis will ever be welcomed into society the way alcohol is due to its status as an illegal substance, even if it is reclassified society will still frown upon it. Maybe its a shame the government won't look at reclassifying alcohol as a means to tackle binge drinking? Cannabis use is on the increase, with strong varieties and cheaper street prices, perhaps the government should legalise it and use the tax they could slap on it to pay the prisoners their compensation for not getting methadone!! At the end of the day Cannabis is an illegal drug, buying it is a crime which lines the pockets of criminals and using it can have some pretty nasty side effects but no more so than other forms of legal drug like alcohol or tobacco. For me as long as I don't encounter any of these side effects it'll remain my favourite to relax with friends after a long hard week at work.

Pros: Pain Relief, Controls Painful Spasms in MS, Helps Patients in Chemotherapy, Insomnia or Stress Reliever, Milder side effects than The Stronger Prescribed Pain Killers. Can be taken in many different ways! Not Physically Addictive. Can be prescribed in spray form in UK for MS but only under supervision from a Neurologist!
All above used as the Medicine it replaces or even less.
Cons: causes mild to serious mental health issues especially in teens and early adolescence. (The highest percentage of users)
can lead to experimentation with other illegal drugs(All Highly Addictive) causes phsychological addiction. Over-use leads to uncontrollable appetite(munchies) Sleepiness (hence name Dope) A loss of the sense of time. Sickness, Diarrhoea, which if severe causes rapid dehydration - a very serious condition. Higher risks of Cancer or Heart Disease because it is smoked with tobacco! Unpredictability of Quality or Strength. Especially with Resin. Drug Pushers! Its Illegality makes it attractive to the young. In the same way as underage smoking and alcohol!

i am absolutely pro to cannabis.i know of nobody who ever got behind the wheel of a car and killed someone because they smoked pot.but thousands have caused deaths by driving drunk or driving and operating other machines on other drugs.as far as legalizing it,I'm not sure.i read an article a few years back in which they talked to people on medical marijuana.they complained the grade of the stuff wasn't very good and it was full of stems and seeds.they said they ended up buying it off the streets anyway.so I'm guessing if it was legalized we would be sold the crap while the people higher up in charge since it was legal would keep the best stuff for themselves.

I really don't think there are any pros to any mind altering drugs. In my experience the cons were awful - I got terrible paranoid feelings the next day, and thankfully I didn't smoke enough of the stuff to have any serious long-term effects (hopefully). Unless you are somebody like 'Paul McKarthy' who can grow his own 'good' stuff then I wouldn't take anything you get nowadays like this skunk stuff. Yet when I was younger I do remember having a good laugh on the stuff, laughing so much it gave me a tummyache!

Pros: It has many varying uses. Use the stalks for rope; the buds for smoking; it grows fairly quickly so it helps to replenish damaged soils; medicinal uses (too many to list); could be taxed if legalized
Cons: It is illegal; can make you lethargic; is harmful to the human body (as are all things consumed or ingested not already in the body); the arrest of our citizens for posession is overcrowding our jail and court system; according to our government, the war against it brings in too much money....

Legalizing marijuana would probably reduce the number of people that use it. In Holland, (where it's legal) there isn't rampant use of the drug among locals - it's mostly the tourists you see smoking it. I have friends that live there (grew up there) and have no desire to use it.
Also it would be nice for people with cancer, aids, ms, and other debilitating diseases to be able to find comfort without fear of the law.

I smoked dope back in the eighties we used to buy it at a west indian pub in bradford as nobody seemed to deal it from home like they do now.We used to have a really good laugh with it back then, it was always black or leb when you bought it off of the back of a beer mat.Nowadays i don't really bother with it as it just makes me tired and boring and thats all it seems to do to everyone i know who uses it
Its a good laugh as long as you see it as purley recreational
but it is illegal and funds serious crime.

Pros:
It can help people with various afflictions, such as AIDS, cancer, glaucoma, and several other diseases.
It can help to "balance out" the mood swings associated with depression and bipolar disorder.
It can restore appetite to those who have lost the urge to eat, either from disease or as a result of the side-effects from prescribed meds.
It can help you get to sleep if you're an insomniac.
CONS:
It is a burning, smoking material being pulled into your lungs (if you smoke it).
In some states, it is illlegal.
Use of it tends to, unfortunately, mark one as a "stoner" or a "loser," depending upon how you use it and with whom you use it.
Some people only use it to get high, and in association with hard drugs, such as coke or meth.
MY BOTTOM LINE: LEGALIZE IT!
