Good question... abdominal pain could be anything... from digestive disorders to periods, appendix problems, liver problems, kidney and bladder infections, ovulation, etc.
Take her to a doctor.
If it turns out to be cramps, these are the things that really worked for me:
calcium/magnesuim supplement helps relax muscles
cramp bark tea (health food store), steep in freshly boiled water for 5-10 minutes
EVENING PRIMROSE OIL!! Take one a day, throughout the month. It has anti-inflammatory properties, great for skin and hair, and wonderful for womens' health in general, especially cramps. 500 mg per day (I take 1000, but I'm 21. Probably since she's younger, 500 would be good, but since it's just an oil, it wouldn't hurt to take more.)
Dairy really increases cramps and acne for me, as well as making me really tired. I have gone off of dairy completely (as well as all animal products, but dairy was the cramping offender), and now I have little to no cramping.
Gluten, same as dairy in effects on cramping.
I've also found that tampons, for some reason, cause cramping for me. I alternate between sea sponges and the DivaCup for staving the flow, and they both work wonderfully and save the environment! No more worry about chemicals, icky.

Between all of these, the difference has been night and day. I had cramps so bad that I was crying and throwing up. Now I only have a little discomfort.

Hope this helps!

You did not give any specific regarding the pain, but i can share my experience.

I had severe pain in my lower back, nausea and pretty intense stomach cramps as if I was having a cycle at least two years before the real deal began which was age 15.5.

I also suffered pretty severe cramps until age 27 when I was diagnosed with endometriosis. You may have check for such to spare her plenty of serious pain.

It could be possible. What kinds of pains is she having and where? You should still take her to her doctor and let her ask her questions for herself. The doctor can tell you if she's getting ready to start her period or if she has an infection. Better to be safe than sorry. I know it sucks that they grow up so fast before your very eyes. :-(
Hope this helps and good luck!

My daughter started her period when she was 11 so it could be. Does she have any fever? You need to make sure it isn't her appendix. If it is mostly on the right side, you might want to take her to the doctor. If not, it could be just cramps. She's not too young.

It could be. Have her breasts started to develop? That usually happens first, then the period.
