Yes, I think it has been made corrupt. Most people think it's a time to spend more money they can afford, children becoming greedy, people pushing and shoving each other. Santa Claus is a myth that doesn't belong in Christmas.
A lot of children don't even know what it is all about, except how many things they can get and how disappointed they are when they don't get what they want. There is only one meaning to Christmas and that's the birth of Christ. To me Christmas eve has more meaning than Christmas Day. I feel at peace knowing that Christ has been born in such a humble manner. Yes, the wise men gave Baby Jesus gifts to celebrate His birth, just like we give gifts on a persons birthday.
If we took all of the money that is spent on gifts and fed the homeless and those who are less fortunate than we are, that would be a real Christmas and a gift to Christ.
So how about it everybody, let's put Christ back into Christmas. Like Tiny Tim said "God Bless Everyone."

People selling Christmas stuff and presents are doing it for the money and business, that is why it is earlier and earlier. That's the business aspect of it.
I do believe in Christmas carolers, going to church and that is when your heart rings true at celebrating the Birth of Christ.
Santa is not fat and he is not such a bad guy.
Moth you can be a Santa for someone! Pick an ornament at a store with a kids name on it, and pick a present for him or her. You will brighten their christmas Day.
Peace.

Just like anything else out there, there are people who take Christmas too far. However, I don't think that EVERYONE is like that. Honestly, I don't.
I love presents and pretty lights as much as anything else. But the holiday to me is about family, friends and the birth of Christ.
If you feel it's too commercial, why not take a page out of Ghandi's book? Specifically, "We must become the change we wish to see in the world," and do something. Tell your family you'd rather provide Christmas dinner to a family who needs it in lieu of giving gifts, and encourage them to do the same.
No, you can't stop everyone from being gluttons. But do what makes you happy, and make the day special for you and those you love. Cheers.
Oh, and Merry Christmas to you and yours.

First of all capitalize the name Christ.
Second, it is so sad that you feel this way and that you lump everyone who celebrates the holidays into this category.
I understand stores putting stuff out early. The shopping season is earlier ever year and it takes time to get the stuff out. Plus so many more people decorate these days.
As to people putting stuff up early, I live where it gets cold and it snows, so you bet when we have an 80 degree day in November (as we did last week) people are out putting up lights and outdoor decorations. HOWEVER, I do not agree with lighting those up until after Thanksgiving! And most people do wait.
For me the best part of Christmas is being together with my family. It doesn't happen too often. And Christ is a part of our Christmas, if you really care, someone usually bakes Him a birthday cake, we say a prayer and go to Mass.

Thank you! I agree! Although, I'd have to say the wonderful things listed in your question still take place (the carolling and giving to the poor and going to church). Christmas has become so commercial. There is a Target commercial on TV now that drives me crazy! All these beautiful little kids are so happy because they got whatever toy they nagged mom about. It is such a twisted view on love. I am sad to say I have a family member that does not feel loved or appreciated unless I give her something for Christmas. I feel so obligated and awful about the whole thing that I actually dread spending anytime with her on christmas. My husband, the kids and I are staying home this Christmas and making our own traditions. One which will include Church, carolling and giving to the poor. That and Christmas cookies bring me a lot of joy. Merry Christmas! God bless you!

I work in a store and we've already had to decorate. I didn't want to but my boss made me. i was like "its not even thanksgiving".
i saw christmas stuff out right next to the halloween stuff in like august!!
The true meaning has gotten lost in all comercialization of it. Kids only care about how many gifts will i get this year. and "will i get the new tickle me elmo?"
And yes its suppose to be about the birth of Christ. People just don't see that.
Thats why alot of places replaced Merry Christmas with "happy holidays"

The shops start selling Christmas stuff early 'cos people buy it early; no shop fills its shelves with 'dead stock'... they need to keep stuff moving.
People need to spread the cost of Christmas out over as long a period as possible...as shown by the poor beggars who put their money into Farepak! (see link)
Where I live we still have collections and carol singers and church-goers.
Don't you???
Maybe you need to move to Cumbria; an place with old fashioned values, a bang up to date night life and the possibility of a "White Christmas" every year!

Well, I have heard that Christmas is a pagan festival. I have
heard that Christ is a fake - among other unsavory things.
Actually, I too go crazy at Christmas time. Maybe I am still a kid (not at this age, believe me) like those people you describe, but it is more a case of kid-at-heart.
Yes, I love presents, fixing up the house (in my case, apartment), getting presents for others, I am crazy about Christmas trees beautifuly adorned with lots of lights and though I do not eat very much, I love to cook and bake for others to enjoy.
Though you think it is out of hand, I beg to differ. Today, I put on a Christmas tree brooch on my sweater and I am certain I got many stares from the more conservative folk but, frankly I don't care. I feel very good. I have an injured left ankle and it is an annoyance, having to wear an ankle band, so I am glad for the change of pace and season.
Please know that I am christian and I do celebrate Jesus' birth - in fact, I will be singing in my church's Christmas pageant - a solo ('Silent Night' and 'O Come, O Come Emmanuel'). In no way am I disrespecting Jesus - He comes first. I miss the carollers too. I grew up with them and I used to look forward to dropping something in their cups.
I never will replace Jesus Christ with Santa Claus. To be honest with you, I do not believe in Santa Claus. (Oh! Oh! Now they are going to hate me, but I can live with that.) When I was a child, I saw my mother buy me a doll and hide it, then tell me Santa Claus brought it. I coolly informed her that I knew the truth and that was that. She hated it but she was the one who told me to tell the truth else she would beat me.
I do not believe you have to be christian to enjoy Christmas and nothing is wrong with your family get-togethers. I love that, too.
I am just a big old Christmas-loving christian and I am not ashamed to admit it.

I ssoo agree with you. I am a Christian and I totally think that Christmas is over commercialised. It's not about Christ anymore, just who can get the best present. Its nice to spend time together with family at Christmas and the prezzies are great but I think that we have lost the true meaning of Christmas which is really sad.

Look speak for yourself........ if you came to see me at Christmas then you would see that Christians DO prepare for the great Feast of Christmas through Advent, and celebrate Jesus's birth on Christmas Day.
Of course some people just celebrate the party..... but others know the true meaning of Christmas.
If you want to know more about the Christian faith, then google 'Alpha'.
And may the blessing of the Holy Spirit come down on you and remain with you always.
