This may sound daft. But with my laptop, the screen sometimes stays blank, if I switch it on when the battery power is low (not enough energy to light up the screen)

Try plugging it in and power up with the mains on. Do you get the same result??

If not - get some pc cleaner that comes in the can - which blows high pressure cold air through the nozzle. This is used to get rid of dust & crap that gets inside your pc. I cant remember the name but pc world stocks it. Give the laptop a good clean with this.

Again try and see if it powers up.

If not, i would see if its still under gaurantee, If it is take it back and tell them it just stopped working, you dont know why.
But if the guarantee has finished check with your home insurance if they cover you. After this i would be tempted to open the thing up and blow out the inside with the air thing i mentioned.

Failing all this, you may have to bite the bullet and invest in a new one. Sell the old one on ebay - explain thoug that it might only be useful for parts.

I dont recommend you attempt to get it repaired. The cost would be far higher than buying a new one if your not covered by insurance / guarantee.
