Hi, there, I've been on the pill for over a year and yesterday I had the first pill of the pack. Today I've had 2 stools that were thin and formed but not ideally formed (and last night about 2 hours 5 min later I had a soft but formed stool).

Would this have affected my pill? Let's say it was diarrhea (though it definitely wasn't full-blown diarrhea) I'm a little worried because I had unprotected sex during my last placebo pills and am afraid last night's pill might have lost some of its effectiveness? Please help...

I am on the pill myself and have done tons of research on it. Having soft stool does not decrease the effectivness of the pill. Some medications(St. Johns Wart, some antibiotics)do lower the effectivness of it. Unprotected sex during the time ur taking the placebo pills is not a worry(they are just sugar pills in a way). U are still covered with the other pills. If u feel the need, u can always talk with your doctor about your concern(Obgyn or any womens health)they will be able to answer any question u may have. Good luck and hope I could help.

Hi there,
I was on the pill for a long time and had digestive problems (not related to the pill) that I also was concerned about.
If you're concerned, have you thought about the Ring? I'm on that, and I would NEVER go back!! so much easier, doesn't make me nauseous, and you can take it out for up to three hours during the month and not get preggers.
Just a thought...
Hope your tummy gets back to normal! Slippery elm is great for upset tummies.

you should be fine since they were placebo pills. If you did have serious diarrhea, then be concerned during the regular pill days. I did read once in a magazine that it was safe to take your pill vaginally if indeed you were sick and vommitting and/or having diarrhea.

Unless you threw up, your pill was safely in your stomach; you'll be fine.
