I know that it depends on the size of the family and also people's income; but, what is the amount you set-aside or allow yourself to spend on Christmas presents?

Well, as you know, we have two little girls. Last Friday afternoon we did thier Christmas shopping and did so without a budget. I think it really depends. Our family is very blessed by the Lord and right now we can afford to go out and do what we want. I want to be able to do nice things for my kids, while keeping everything inline. I don't want them spoiled or selfish. Likewise, if things are tough and times change, then a budget would be something we would have to go to.

Well i shop year round. buying whomever s name I drew first. We have such a big extended family we put all the names in the hat and draw a name for the next Christmas. I have 3 children as well and I usually get them about 4 or 5 presents a piece. Depending on what it is.this year we are also giving the kids some money and taking them to the store to buy their siblings a present from their heart. I would say on a low budget 100 per kid.we try not to go over 200 and depending when you and where you shop you can really get some good deals the day after thanksgiving. most of the time the toys are half off.An around the beginning of the school year they have tax free weekend on clothes etc. I buy the clothes a couple of sizes bigger so on christmas they get tons of clothes and stuff they can use through the year.My kids are rally into making crafts so I like to get them stuff to paint with etc.

Most have Christmas budgets. I've set aside $1,000 for my bf this Christmas. He's set aside the same for me. We try not to go overboard on what we buy each other.

For the rest of the family, we have budgets as well. But you're right, these are based on the size of the family so everyone's will be different.

We don't spend much because we give surprise gifts throughout the year as well. For immediate family I do more of crafty things than going out to buy something. For my kids we might spend about 100 on each, but we are always on a very limited budget. Christmas for us is not really about the gifts anyway but about Jesus and being close to family.

I do my christmas shopping the day before christmas when there is nothing less, then have to scrounge for things, but I always make sure I have enough for a 50.00 gift for emmidate family, and for friends I usually just give them 20.00 in a card, and for my loved one and kids I usually spend any where from 300.00 - 400.00 on each of them. I am a big spender here.

$25.00 on each of my parents. This is usually a combined gift with my siblings. $10 on each niece and nephew. I don't have children and refuse to spend huge amounts on them year after year when I get nothing in return. Besides, the kids get so many gifts they don't notice. My parents spend about $40 on me (my mom told me). I don't exchange gifts with my siblings or friends because everyone has little kids and is tight for cash around the holidays. So, no one I know is a big spender. We don't spend much and don't expect much in return. Just spending time with my family and friends is the most important part.

Dragon bases the money she spends on what the person she is shopping for wants. She thinks it is more important that she give a gift that the person will enjoy, than to worry about how much money. Sometimes, the inexpensive gifts are the best ones.
