My daughter is about 2 weeks old. I took her out yesterday, and it was raining and about 40degs. She was bundeled up, even had a cloth over the car seat while outside for a short period. My family got real upset saying no one should take such a little kid out. Whats your opinion on this.

Perfectly fine if the child is dressed appropriately and not exposed to the elements for a long period of time.

My opinion...take her out. Sheltering her will do nothing for her. My son was born Dec 9. And I had been on bedrest from week 15. I had SO much Christmas shopping to do. At 5 days old (in Illinois in snow and 10 degree weather) I would bundle him up really tight. I would warm my car and blast the heater (hubby drove since I was still on restrictions). I would make sure he was VERY covered and very warm. And when in the stores I would keep him bundled so 1...people wouldn't be tempted to stop me and look (spread too many germs directly on him) and 2 because the store are colder to baby than to us.

I mean you wouldn't keep your child inside until he reaches 60 degrees outside again That is nonsense. You are Mom. I am sure you have talked to your doctor. You have every right to take her out as long as you make sure she is bundled.

For safety, remember no coats or snowoutfits on baby while driving. If you get in an accident, carseats work best when baby is in normal clothing. Blast the heater. You may be hot but baby will stay cozy.

fresh air never hurt anyone. I believe keeping your child in the house all the time does more harm than letting them go out side. People are way paranoid of new borns and the elements. the more your child is out there the more she's building up her immune system. You did the right thing with her, kept her bundled up, even covered her car seat. Now if you had her out side in just a diaper, thats one thing. But the cold isn't gonna hurt her as long as she's able to keep her body heat in, and you had that aspect covered. You did good! Tell them to stop worrying!

It sounds like you did everything right. As long as she's well bundled and you're not out for an extensive period of time, sure you can take her out. It's good for you to be getting out of the house as well..... I have a 7 month old and remember how much it sucked being stuck in the house the first few weeks. I wouldn't worry about what your family says. Trust your instincts and you sound like a great mother!

I think it's fine if she was completely bundled up. Personally I would try not to take her out in conditions like those if she's only a couple of weeks old. Just make sure that if you do it again that she is completely covered from head to toe and that she isn't hit with any of the cold or wet air!

I have a 3 year old and a 9 month old...yes it is okay to take them out in the cold as long as you keep them warm with clothes...jackets...hats...etc....people have a misconceptiont that cold weather makes you sick...that is a myth...just like don't go out with your hair wet!....germs make you sick....I wouldn't take a 2 week old out b/c there bodies are building up there immunities....and when you go out to a store..most people...especially woman who have already had and raised there own kids...will want to touch the new baby....get where I am going with this....well congrats on the new little one

Why not...you seem to have had the baby swaddled enough and protected from direct drafts...my 1st son was a week old and we would go see my mom daily in the middle of January in Southern new England. He was in his zip jammies/a bunting bag of fleece, a warm knit hat in the hood, and a fleece blanket in his car seat. He made it through it all fine and is now 25....good cool fresh air is good for the baby.

Your the Mom so do what you want. Talk to your pediatrician. Forty degrees is cold, but not that cold. I think the wind can take her breath away is she's exposed to that--it will frighten her. When you go out, make sure she has a hat and cover her head loosely (just drape it over) with a receiving blanket. There is no need to make her uncomfortable.

Well, sometimes you have to leave you house and there is nobody to watch the baby. I used to ahve to do that tooa nd I would just bundle her up real good, and start the car to let it warm up first. Then they are only out in the cold for a few seconds.

Sometimes you just have to take your little one out whether you want to or not. It sounds like you had her bundled up good and protected. Don't worry about it. It's a good idea to take her out on sunny days, the sunlight is good for jaundice if your baby gets that, just keep her warm. The fresh air is good too.
