I have friend who is dating a trasgender female. She was once a man but is now a woman. She told my friend. Some of my other friends are saying that it's like our friend is gay. I on the other hand don't think that this makes him gay. He's dating someone who couldn't take living life as a man knowing they truly wanted to be a woman. As least she told him and didn't keep it from him and I applaud her for that.

This doesn't make him gay, because the girl he is seeing is really a woman and has transitioned to living life as a woman. She is no way a man. Your friend is straight, the only people that they think he is secretly gay is because they are ignorant. I agree with your statement wholeheardtly!

No. It does not make him gay. I am a transgendered person myself and I will explain why, since these questions come up A LOT.

To really explain this, you have to understand FIRST that sex (as in body organs), gender, and sexual orientation are 3 very different things and none of which link with any of the others.

Sex as in body organs are the genetalia you are born with. Your GENDER on the other hand is how you feel in your mind. Sex is between the legs, gender is between the ears. So..your friend who is dating this trans woman, is straight. Regardless of whether the trans person had the operation or not. Let me explain why. Because, the trans woman has ALWAYS seen herself as a woman. She has the GENDER of a woman, it's jsut the physical organs that don't match (or didn't match)..all she did was take the outside to match the inside. She's always BEEN a woman, it's just now she's a woman to SOCIETY. Unfortunately it's SOCIETY that gives us the strict gender roles which we all blindly follow without questioniong it. A person's sex organs and their sexual orientation are two different things as well, which many of us already know. A person can have the sex organs of a male and still be attracted to males, or have the sex organs of a female and still be attracted to females. Also, a transgender woman (a man who became a woman) isn't necessarily gay in the beginning either. Perhaps, as a he, he liked women, but saw himself as a woman too. Then when HE became a SHE, she likes women..and would therefore be considered by SOCIETY to be a "lesbian". Her sexual orientation never changed! Just her SEX. Do u understand now?

He most certainly is not gay... she has a vagina right? She's now legally a woman right? Why anyone would think your friend is gay is beyond me. I wonder how many of your other friends have been with females that use to be males because I can tell you one thing most of them can pull off a short skirt better than a lot of "born females" can!!!

**Oh and don't listen to these bashers... I'm sure they've aready been reported for what they said!!!**

No it doesn't make the man gay because the person who's now a woman was a woman on the inside all her life anyway. Having the surgery to correct the mistake in anatomy is just what was needed to make this person whole. :)=

Since for a variety of reasons either a gay or straight man might be attracted to a trans-gender female, the attraction itself is no determinant of the sexual orientation of the attractee.

A man dating a person with a mostly female body and female mind? Sounds like a straight relationship to me.

No

Being gay means you are attracted to people of the same gender. A transfemale isn't male any more. Their sex is male, but their gender is female. Many times it will surprise a gynocologist when a transwoman starts going to them, because they had no idea the person was initially male, until an in-depth physical exam.

I had a boyfriend last year that was a transman (female to male transsexual). Does that mean I'm straight?

He is straight because the person he is attracted to is a woman. It doesn't matter what she was 10 years ago - it matters what she is now.

That would be like saying is this man pedophile - because the woman he is dating used to be a little girl.

No. If she is a woman now and he is dating her now, then he is dating her as a women. If he dated her as a man, that'd be different. But since he's dating her as a woman, that makes her a woman and him a straight man. At least from the information you gave us.

I think it depends partly on why he is attracted to this woman.

If part of the attraction is that she is a transgender, if she is clearly masculine in nature, if she identifies herself as a transgender... then, yes, there is a homosexual aspect of the relationship.

If she lives as a woman, appears to everyone to be a woman, and identifies herself as a woman.... then I would say the relationship is straight.

IMHO
