it isn't hard to do if you have mechanical skills and some specialized tools. You will need a torque wrench, pinion depth gauge and a dial indicator w/ magnetic base.
A good manual will tell you the important parts. be sure to check your tooth patterns and follow the break in procedure

i own a repair shop and its not a hard job at all to do,if you already have the gears just remove the stump and dis-assemble it, then remove the gears from it,when you install the new gears you will need to set the back lash on it or the clearance ,i always set them to about 20 thousands of free play in the gears, this way it has room to expand when it gets hot,but check the free play in the one that's on it to be sure, the rest of it is just simple stuff, just take your time with it,and get a good repair manual in case you run in to any problems with it,but i don't think you,ll have any problems at all with it,once you have done one you,ll see how easy it is to do,good luck,i hope this help,s.,,PS id also check the bearings while i was in their to make sure there in good shape,,i hope this help,s.

to replace them ? easy. to do it correctly, with out dial indicator, very difficult . tolerances are measured in thousands of an inch.find some one experienced. and get a guarantee, if they won't guarantee it, go some where else. P.S. don't take it to a dodge man.
