Jill, God there are some crap answers here!
Right off, let me say that I am bipolar and was diagnosed about a year and a half ago. My meds are working excellently and there is no reason that yours should not either.
To answer your question: yes, absolutely. Hypersexuality (an increased need for sex) is a classic symptom of bipolar mania or hypomania. The definition of Bipolar Disorder is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Current_diagnostic_criteria_for_bipolar_disorder for what it's worth.
So in response to all the answers calling you a s!ut and irresponsible, ignore them. Right now you are ill and need treatment. Your behaviour is a symptom, not the way you are.
I'd like to suggest that you come and discuss this with other sufferers - there are many online support groups, bu the two I use are http://www.crazyboards.org (don't be put off by the name!) and http://z9.invisionfree.com/Bipolar_Haven

I don't know if bipolar will cause promiscous behavior or not, but I can tell you that both my ex husband and his brothers wife have bipolar, and they both had affairs up the ying yang!! It is like they couldn't control themselves! You can ask your doctor if this is the cause of this, or if having bipolar is an excuse that a lot of people use for doing this. Me, I think it's an excuse. But, that's my opinion. No matter what, a person has control over themselves, unless they are so horribly insane that they have no choice over what they say or do. Bipolar, from what I have seen, does not do this. From what I have seen, those afflicted with it still have their minds, are still in control of themselves, their actions, what they say, etc. Maybe there is a sex addiction involved here? I believe that is what my ex husband and his sis in law also have, and that is what causes them to want and have sex so often with so many people, even while they are married.
And, no, I am not jealous just cause you are getting some. I get it every other night from my fiance. At least I stay with one person so I stay safe from std's and AIDS.

Get on your medication and say on it. Your children have no other help if your bi-polar is not treated. Your Ex-husband is the alternative if you can not care for your kids. So you know what is at stake.
To answer you question specifically, promiscuity is often a manic release for bipolar people.

bipolar can cause you to behave excessively, so too much sex would fit into that category, but do not use that as an excuse for your amoral behavior - get help if you're bipolar - go on meds - if you don't you may lose your children - what's more important - sex with 3 different men or your 3 kids?

Being bipolar means you go from one extreme mood to the next in a few seconds.
Funny how you weren't a slag before they diagnosed you.
Mental illness is not an excuse to do whatever you please.
Quit being a whore and worry about your kids- it's bad enough they've got a mentally ill mother.
P.S.- I get some NIGHTLY from the same guy that I married. He loves me.. isn't that nice???? Amazing the kind of well-rounded relationship you can get yourself into when you GROW UP and quit blaming other people for your problems..

I am not sure, but you should act like a lady, and maybe you will find someone nice. Yes, if not now, but later it will affect your three kids.
