It keeps emitting the sound even though it shuts down, until I unplug it. This keeps happening to me quite frequently in the last 3 weeks or so. It has done this in the past, but lately, it seems to be getting worse.

I've already asked several people about the problem. They told me it's overheating and to keep it clean it with air can. I do that all the time, but I am spending too much money on air cans. it's properly ventilated etc.

I even went so far as to open the side and blast a big fan on it, just so I could keep it running for at least a couple of hours to get my work done.

Another computer I had 3 years ago never had this problem. What is wrong?

A friend of my brother-in-law built my computer from parts:
512 mb of ram,
1.67 Ghz,
AMD Athlon XP 2000,

Overheating can be caused by short circuits also. Your mainboard or CPU is likely to be requiring servicing.

The loud beep you hear is a design in the manufacturers mainboard to alert you to a serious problem.

PLease bring your mainboard to the shop where you purchased it or to any other qualified servicing center.

well there's your problem, you got a wrench in the system.:) :)

well if you get speed fan and it is running under 110 it is good but. i think that your bios battery is bad. but I'm not there so i don't know. and if it is heating up you need a new CPU. but wate dose it have a big silver block on top of it if not you need one..

to get any computer parts at a good price go to http://www.tigerdirect.com/

i need more info to help you, so the computer just goes beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep after awile then it shuts off. first turn off the computer. check if the cpu is properly in place and then the ram and the ide cables also the power plugs.if they are all good then check the battery buy a new one. after all that get speed fan the cpu needs to be under 110 f if it is over heating there are a few things you can do befor geting a new cpu first get Thermal Compound and place it on top of the cpu and place the heat sink on top of itrun it for a wile, if that dose not work get a cpu fan then you need biger heatsink. after all that if it is still not working you will need a new cpu

hope this helps
good luck and good night

It could be the fan that is mounted on the processor. The bering goes out on them and makes a high pitched sound. Make sure you have a good enough fan for your processor. Open your case, and when the computer is running, find the fan that is mounted on the processor and push in the middle of it with a pencil eraser. If the pitch changes, you will know that this is it.

This screeching sound is probably from a gunked up fan... or bad ball berings in it. Look inside the tower for fans. See if you can spin them (you should be able to push them easily and they should spin, like the wheel of a bike). If any of them don't spin easily, that's your probelm. No amount of dust be gone cans will help. You need to replace the fan or the item the fan is attached to (video cards and powersupplys will need to be replaced due to a bad fan)

Not sure if overheating is your problem. Check your power supply...you can check the voltages using SpeedFan (it also shows you your temperatures so you can check that too).

i had something similar happen. it ended up being a faulty power supply in the box. that might be a good first place to look.
