There is already a "flying car".... http://www.moller.com/
Although the exact technology might not be what we have seen in movies, and cartoons like The Jetsons, I imagine there will be similarities. It's easy to invent something and make it work in the movies, but putting it to actual application is something different. Even with the vehicles of today, the changes made from concept to showroom floor can be extensive, as they determine that what works "in theory" won't work in reality.
But, many of the things we hope for (even unknowingly, like "Man I wish this laundry could do itself") just might be around the corner... it's only a matter of time.
(Side note to Sandy: Sandy, I received your private message with regard to another Q&A, and I've tried to respond; however, I get an error message that says your email "has not been confirmed". So, I am unable to respond to that inquiry.)

The Jetsons are way cool. I like the way the robotic claw got him up,showed, brushed his teeth, brushed hair, and dressed him. I need that some days. BUT I believe everyone will have video phones in their homes first. It would be nice to see are loved ones that are far away when were talking to them.

Nano robotics. What I'm hopeing for is somthing like a nural interface using nano robots. If you don't know what that is, they are robots smaller than cells. Think about it. If we could use just our brain to operate anything, things would get done just as fast as we could think. We could comunicate telepathicly, save memories with incredible detail, and hundreds of other tasks with ease.

I like the Jetsons' oven -- you just speak and your dinner is done. Seriously, I don't think we are too far from having the oven/microwave on verbal commands. We already have the robot vacuums.

You forgot mobile telephone and MP3 Player/I Pod which aren't really for the home but mean that we don't have to spend so much time there :)
I'm hoping for a vacuum that works itself and an washing/drying and ironing machine
