i'm not sure what it is that you call pants lol
americans refer to their...shall we say, garment that covers the lower half of the body, things like slacks, shorts, khakis, and jeans
we use the term pants to refer to any of those things, to us, it's a broad term

I only call trousers, those dressier pants. And then there's jeans, khakis, ect.

trousers are pants, but not all pants are trousers, ie jeans, chinos..
