When I took it to garage, the mechanic ruled out problem with the coils. Also the accelerator pedal sticks at first when the engine is cold.

My husband owns a garage and he says it sounds like a fuel pump problem. It could be weak, clogged up, or you may need a new one. One of the more expensive parts I may add. Best to buy the part yourself if you can get a good deal.

The jerking could be caused by the coils/spark plugs/clogged injectors/clogged fuel filter. Try to have it serviced first before changing any parts as it'll cost you quite a bit. As for the sticky accelerator, most cars come with a cold-start mechanism. This mechanism increases the timing and provides more fuel into the engine during the warm-up period, and it's normal to experience the sticky-pedal feeling. I've come across this in most cars, even my dad's old Vanette.

A very inexpensive repair you can do is water treatment.
If you have water in your gas then you can get that jerking. It happens when you accelerate. STP gas/fuel injector cleaner pour whole bottle in gas tank and then give a long drive after. See if that fixes it.You could also have a plug wire that is shorting out. The way to check this is to lift the hood and look at the spark plugs in the dark. If you see little sparks then you have a short in the spark plug wires.

a clogged gas filter amy be the problem. as for the accelerator cable, if you can see it, spray a small amount of wd 40 into the end of the cable covering and see if that solves the drag problem on the cable.
