Try going to Task Manager (By Pressing CTRL, ALT and DELETE, and then selecting Task Manager) and seeing if there's a particular process that's hogging the CPU.
(You can click on the Process tab, and click the CPU heading to put them CPU order)
If you've found something that's hogging the CPU you can click on it to highligh, and click the End Process button. You should then be at least able to shut down.
It's usually worth checking the process name/filename on a search engine to make sure it's nothing malicious; if it is, do a full Virus scan to get rid of it.

This is a very serious problem. U can shut down in improper way or use softwares which shutdowns the computer based on the schedule added by the user. Or search for the missing files or format the computer and backup the data.

It's caught up on something. You can just hit the reset button or hold in the power button for a little bit and it will turn off. You might want to perform a Disk Check to make sure there are no errors once it comes back up.

first do this: hit CTRL+ALT+DEL (hold the 3 button at the same time)
You will then see which program refused to shut off (probably NOT RESPONDING)
kill that porgram
later on you might want to uninstall that program and then if you still need it, reinstall again
To really switch off, you casn push the ON button for severalk second until your PC switch off - but this is not a good measure. The first measure is the above

Spankdis is most likely right but on the other hand try bringing up the task manager by pushing cntrl+alt+del and see if there's any hidden programs running in the background although if it's a virus or spyware it won't help much.

You'll have to do a "hard boot." Hold your power button in for 10 seconds until it turns itself off. Wait ten seconds and turn it back on.
It may just be a glitch and this may fix the problem ... but if you have this error again, you'll want to scan for viruses, malware, and spyware. Good luck!

First, try pressing Alt + F4. That should bring up the shut down menu.
If not, hold in the power button and then restart.
