This is the most complex thought provoking question I've ever read on Y!A. I usually respond without much thought, but this question had me analyzing and re-writing my response several times. Submit another or I'll be brain dead soon

Here is what's common about commonsense:
The 'Common' in common sense implies that the information is readily available to everyone who is able to think. (It's available)

Here's what sensible about commonsense:
'Sense' means you do not have to be an intellectual or academic whiz, to come to logical conclusions. (sense is partly instinct, we avoid danger even if we never went to school)

Commonsense is mental ability not conclusions or an action. You cannot dismissed or minimize the ability simply because you disagree with the facts (the data) that came out of using commonsense. In other words 'ability vs conclusion'.

Example:
If there is a fire and there are two exits on the south and north walls, people with commonsense will run to the one closest to them.
Those who did not use commonsense and took the exit at the farthest wall may perish.

Those who used the nearest door show examples of COMMON in commonsense. Everyone has access to their own brain.

They also show examples of 'SENSE'. They did not need a PHD to choose the closest door.

Sigmund Freud said that what most people define as common sense is really just a set of prejudices that are created when we're very young. The word prejudice here is used in the larger sense, meaning pre-judgements, and not just in the racial sense.
People in different cultures definitely have different ideas about what defines common sense so you're absolutely right that what seems sensible to one person may not seem that way to another - It all has to do with our background and upbringing.

common sense is essentially all the truths of the universe that we can guess will happen. for example if i touch the fire i will feel pain, the sun will rise after nightfall, what goes up must come down, and so on. however since we all have different experiences we will all have different perspectives and believes on more trivial matters.

Common sense can be defined as that which is known by all.

Whether we use it or not becomes a purple horse.
