They do. Back in the day, they would not have, since the Church was the only place you were allowed to get married, but alas, those days have passed.
Anyway, nowadays, no matter WHO marries you, as long as they are recognized by the STATE in which you get married, it's considered a legitimate marriage.
Although I think you're asking more along the lines of would they recognize and accept it? Some would, since the person who performed the marriage has to be legally licensed to do so. Some would NOT because they were not married in the eyes of God. They, in my opinion, are wrong. When two people love each other, yes, they can make that love whole by getting married, but if it's not in the Christian church, it shouldn't be a big deal.

There is only one God, just different religions. God does not recognize religions. If you are a true believer you say I'm a believer of Jesus Christ. He says to, love one another as I have loved you. As far as being married by a non clergy, you are married before God. The piece of paper between you is only for govt., taxes and so forth. If you dont have the paper then you cannot claim your spouse and oh there are other legal reasons. If you truly love this person then who is to judge whether you are right or wrong? The marraige is just not recognized by the state or otherwise. I hope this helps.

Of course, marriage was built into creation by God. That's why people all over the world marry.

No legitimate Christian clergyman would say that a Hindu couple, married in a Hindu ceremony, are not really husband and wife.

How about we believe that we are all one in God (your choice as to what to call him/her)? So then, the question would be, Do people recognize as legitimate marriages performed by just anyone?
How would you respond? Furthermore, if you were married by someone of your faith, why would you care what someone of another faith thinks of you?

Why would they choose someone outside of their belief realm?

If recognizable by law is valid marriage.

To submit in the Christian setting is indeed to symbol before God (who sees all).

Mine is--it was performed by my son, who became ordained online just to perform it!
If they believe it, so does God.
