Unlikely that a worn, broken, or even missing shock absorber would cause a 2inch difference in height. (could happen, but unlikely). I recomend you checking a-plate bushings, ball joints, and tire pressures. If you have any questions regarding checking these items, you should take the truck to a mechanic, especially one who specializes in front-end work, and ask him to take a look at it. Most mechanics should do this while you wait for a minmal fee. It sounds to me as though you have a loose or broken front end chasis component which can be quite dangerous.

Assuming that your tyre pressure is even all around, then you might have a worn absorber. It might be leaking and not able to sustain the weight of the vehicle. A simple, though not very effective, way to determine this is to drive over a small hole with the front left tyre. If your pickup bounces more than once, then the absorber might be worn.

sounds like you need a new shock absorber. you may have hit something and broke the shock when it bounced. it may also be a collapsed spring, but that is a very remote possibility.
