okay, i just read on yahoo answers that someone is afraid of pickles - now, i've heard to peole being afraid of "regular" things like marbles, hair, buttons, steps and so on.......i just don't understand - what is it that creates this non-sense of a fear, it boggles the mind?!?

Phobias, by definition are IRRATIONAL fears. To attempt to find rationality in them, then, is futile.

Well I don,t know about pickles,but I,m a little clothafobic{How ever you say that word}.I do not like being in small closed in erea,s!I start getting a panic attack,like someone is sucking all the air out of my lungs and i can not put any back in!It got a little worse as i get older and that i don,t like!Hollywood

Most of the time, it has something to do with a past experience, maybe a traumatic experience that occurred in childhood. Some things can trigger those memories and create fear of certain objects.

alot of the time its caused by something thats happened in that persons past. for the longest time i was afraid of windows and sliding glass doors especially. when i was 13 my mom took me to a psychologist to see what was wrong with me,and it turns out when i was 2 or 3 my parents were fixing a broken window and it fell on me and hurt me pretty bad, now i dont remember any of it because i was so little at the time but i guess it traumatized me pretty bad.

slightly bizarre - my 12 yr old all of sudden will not use a paper napkin - she says it gives her the creeps - i find it hard to understand.

it's possible that they choked on one once....therefore creating a fear!
