These shows only handle civil issues, not criminal cases. So, no criminal rulings are made on the show. All participants have to sign a waiver stating that they will agree to pay whatever fee may be granted and that the ruling will be final.

If it comes out in the course of the show that one of the participants has committed a crime, then it is up to law enforcement in the jurisdiction where the crime was committed to decide if they will pursue further action.

I agree with Alan...most law enforcement would not take confessions on the show very seriously unless they found other evidence. They know as well as the audience does, that people are on there to be on tv, not necessarily to seek justice. Think of it this way, have you ever seen them try a rape or murder case? No, it's usually a case of he owes me money or she ran over my dog. It's all civil issues.

Such shows are entertainment. An open confession would likely not hold much water in an actual courtroom, and I would bet that most courts would not treat the "testimony" from those "courts" as they would from other courtrooms and cases. Such statements likely do not satisfy the usual tests for hearsay reliaiblity. They could probably be admitted, but I think most juries would be easily persuaded that anything said there was inherently unreliable.

I read that about one case on judge judy where there was damage to the car, they sign a form thing that stated that the show would pay off all damages to the car, if they allowed the ruling to go to one side. Judge Judy also foccused more on the childrens fathers then the car damages. (the current boyfriend damaged the ex's) In this case it was completely set up from the start.

I imagine some of them get investigated and prosecuted although I have yet to hear about any such case. I have heard people admit to crimes on Judge Judy.

what kind of crimes?

people who admit to crimes on tv, could be held later accountable for admitting to.

people's court, judge judy, etc etc are not real life courts. in fact ruling in these "courts" are not even set in stone. its the equivalent of civil cases.

Because it is a made for tv court, they sign waivers that no other punishment can happen to them other than what Judge Judy gives them.

I think they are sent to TV prison.

Sorry....don't have a clue but I imagine they pre-screen these "criminals" to make sure the crime is not a felony or a significant misdemeanor.
