They're looking for something to run to the ACLU about.
We aren't racist, we just have common sense.
And we are tired of feeding the lazy.

Republicans are anti civil rights? Please people substantiate these claims. With the exception of the gay community I don't think you can.. Here are some facts for you people that seem ignorant of them
Dwight Eisenhower Republican Began the desegregation of schools

Representative Everett Dirksen Republican authored most of the civil rights legislation of the 50's and 60's including the voting rights act. and they received support from both parties

The NAACP was founded by Republicans

The most celebrated civil rights activist of the modern era Dr. Martin Luther King it might surprise you to know was, you got it, a registered Republican

The 13th 14th 15th amendments to the constitution Freeing the slaves, Granting Citizenship and protecting the rights of black voters. Were opposed by the Democratic party and passed by the Republican party.

Affirmative action was a policy initiated by the Nixon Administration again Republican

THE KKK was established and funded by the Democratic party of the south

The Jim Crow laws, Black Codes and poll taxes were all written and passed by Democrats.

Now lets Look at the Republican offenses
They are against Abortion by and large
They are against Gay marriage
They while supporting affirmative action are against hard quotas
and they were against the equal rights amendment movement of the 70's.

Taking a look at the body of evidence or facts if you may. I think shows that the Republicans have done far more in the area of equal rights for minorities than the Democrats. In Fact Discriminatory laws have been almost without exception the actions of those calling themselves Democrats.
So Don't lecture Republicans on their evils take a look at your own house.

Brian Your facts are not correct. The 1964 Act was authored by a republican. It is true some republicans did not support renewal of the act. You state that Republicans fought desegregating schools again incorrect Eisenhower a Republican was the first to promote desegregation and use federal forces to enforce it. Like wise it was Eisenhower who actually implemented Truman's Plan to Desegregate the armed forces.

Re; Katrina All City, County (called parishes in LA)and state government was in the Democrats hands all Federal Govt was in Republican hands the best that can be said is this was a Bipartisan debacle Stop spinning folks.

it's more about the republican power base, the people that vote for the republicans. can you argue that the conservative base is in the south. they still fly confederate flags there, the kkk still exists there. it's hard to find good old racism like in the south. now the funny thing is, most black people down there don't vote. when poloticians s talk about traditional southern values i get shivers down my spine.
and it's not what actions the administration has done it's what they haven't done. and it's not really as much anti black as it is anti poor.
if you don't know, you should take a look around, poor neighborhoods aren't doing better. it'd be hard to blame the president for this if it wasn't for the fact that the very rich are doing better then ten years ago and the poor are doing much less.
imagine what the cost of one smart missile could do too a poor neighbor hood. have you ever seen a ghetto inner city school, it's not pretty.
the problem with bush is he's not upholding to that " created equal" thing.

Sophist - here are the responses to your statements.

Racist:

Detaining countless Arab men indefinitely on the off chance that they might be terrorists - I don't think keeping someone under arrest for having a gun and shooting at our soldiers is racist. That is considered an act of war or an illegal activity during a time of war. Don't we put people on prison if they rob a bank or try to kill someone?

Leaving black people in New Orleans to die after Katrina; - Hold on here. These people DECIDED TO STAY in Katrina during the Hurricane. The democratic administration of Nagin can get buses to haul people to the polls, but they can't get these same people of out town during a potential Class 4 or 5 Hurricane. You and I saw the pictures from down there, the national guard and army basically rescued these people becuase they were too stupid to get out of town. So its called personal responsibility. The government cannot control stupidity. These people should be honorary members of the darwin society. Plus there were both blacks and whites in town. So are you saying the democrats in power only left the blacks there and it is the republicans fault? Give me a break.

The democrats are voting in Robert Bird into the Senate. He is a person who is a self proclaimed racist. He was in the KKK. All of a sudden he changes his mind about something like that? I don't think so. He has the wool pulled over many people's eyes. So talk about double speak.

Civil Rights

Anti-abortion policies - Children are the future of our country and using abortion should not be used as birth control. We all know how you get pregant. If you don't want to get pregnant, use the pill, an IUD, or a condom or don't have sex. Its a pretty simple issue. I believe our health system even pays for this stuff if you are poor. So lack of planning on your part does not mean that we are anti racist or anti civil rights.

Anti civil-union legislation - Since when did someone's sex life become the country's problem? There is legislation on the books to protect people from descrimination. Why do we need to legalize gay marriage? The State of Massachusettes is now going through its first gay divorce. It is even uglier than a hetro divorce. So this is not a civil right issue, this is a bedroom issue and it needs to stay there.

this is the historic past of your occasion. The conservatives have continuously been against civil rights for all people who isn't a white at present day guy. only verify the historic past. bear in innovations that the Republican occasion and the Democratic occasion have been as quickly as opposites...in the Civil conflict as an occasion the Republican occasion grew to become into Liberal and the Democrats have been for slavery. So that's an argument of who's on your occasion on the 2d and in yours are truthfully the main suitable Wing radical racists.

... well some people would wonder about the Katrina incident... although many whites were affected...

some others would wonder why it took Bush like 5 years to talk to the NAACP... turning down many invites...

some may even say NCLB punishes low performing, traditionally black schools, quite a bit by requiring a lot, but funding little...when the schools were already struggling before that...

but I think, the majority, would go back much farther than this administration... to the fact that Strom thurmond switched political parties for a reason... which many would say that the Republicans are viewed as the "good ol' boys club"...

and some might just say that it seems that the majority of racists... seem to support the Repubicans... I know a few and the one's I know do...but that's just personal observations that I couldn't prove...

and some seem to believe that many black people are lazy... see above... which to me seems like a very racist idea...

The republicans tried to block the 1964 civil rights act. They also tried to let sections of that act to lapse until public pressure forced them to reenact them notably the portion dealing with watching southern electioneers trying to keep minorities from voting a long time practice in the south. Then we got the dumbing down of search and seizure laws in the patriot act. The elimination of habaes corpus if the president wants to do that to you by saying your a enemy combatant. In world war 2 they tried very hard to keep blacks from being pilots. They later tried to keep segregation from happening in the armed services and in the schools. The list goes on and on. They also delight in torturing minorities with symbols of slavery like the confederate flag. If you want to be with this crowd you should ask yourself do you want to be a racist.

How about constitutional rights.

Declaration of "free speech zones" is a violation of the first amendment in that the entire US is a free speech zone.

Warentless wire tapping is a violation of the fourth amendment.

Let the impeachment begin.
Impeachment article 1, violating the oath of office by willfully violating the constitution.

Because they have a consistent record of voting in the US Legislature against civil rights and anything else that sounds even remotely like it involves equal rights for all Americans.

The loonys keep hollering about the response to Hurricae Katrina like there was something racist about it. They just don't understand that it had nothing to do with racism and everything to do with accountability.

The Mayor of New Orleans and the Governor of Louisiana screwed the pooch on the whole deal. Funds that were intended to go to strengthen the levees were spent of frivolous items like tour busses and parties by Nitwit Nagin, and the Governor sat around with her thumb in her backside instead of mobilizing right away and declaring a disaster so they could get federal aid. FEMA dropped the ball on their initial response and the Director was canned, as he should have been, but the loony lefties have to hold Nagin and Blanco responsible for most of what happened.

I'd like to point out that South Florida was hit by Katrina and then by Wilma in the same year but our Governor, Jeb Bush, knew what he was doing and is a responsible person. He had the problems handled in quick time. That's the difference between responsible Republican government and irresponsible Democrat government.

Liberals like to polarize every issue and make it seem black and white for people but in reality all their doing is ostracizing themselves. That is why there has been such little representation of Democrats in Congress because they blame everything on Republicans to try to win votes and they don't have any answers - there isn't a viable leader among them. Just look at Kerry trying to win votes by making jokes about the other party and watching it blow up in his face!
