The Do-Do is a well known extinction, they died out because the people ate them all. Predators got to their eggs and there wasn't any kind of conservation going on then.

"The latest mammal extinction may be the Western black rhino (Diceros bicornis longipes). The World Conservation Union (IUCN) announced on 7 July 2006 that this subspecies has been tentatively declared as extinct.
Two other mammals declared extinct in the new millennium are the Pyrenean ibex (the last individual, see right-hand picture, of this subspecies died on 6 January 2000 in Ordesa National Park in Spain) and the Miss Waldron's red colobus monkey (October 2000)."
