I've gone to AF balls and I'd say go classy. Cocktail dress. The women who wear prom dresses look like tramps. And don't show too much skin.

I have been to many military balls and you would wear soemthing like a formal dress. Think of it as a prom sorta. But go for a dark color dress. Men will wear suits or tuxes, and other girls will be dressing formal. Good Luck.

don't wear your night gown, check any catalog from a major store. All have formal attire. Others will be wearing evening gowns and the military guys and gals will be wearing dress blues, greens or whites as dictated.

A nice formal dress that makes you feel like the Belle of the Ball. As long as you are not half naked, or dressed like grandma, you should be fine. Also consider your date, you wouldn't want to embarrass them, or have any of the superior officers gawking at you or making jokes about you or them, so dress age appropriate and occassion appropriate. I just went to one about a month ago. I truly saw every syle imaginable from very casual to VERY dressy. I wore a floor length, straight black dress with spaghetti straps. I felt very comfortable in it and fit right in. I think most of the appropriate attire that night was floor length but cocktail would be good too. Don't go Cinderella style, though... I think that is too much. But, you will have fun either way!!!

My sister went to a lot of military formal balls. Pretend you are going to a "prom". Long or short doesn't matter. Of course, the safest bet is the "little black dress". Easy to accesorize.
