As long as I had work to keep me busy, I preferred 4 10s. But it turned out that my micromanaging supervisor would drop the ball and I would end up with nothing to do the last 1 1/2 hours. If I can stay busy, it's great. Otherwise, 5 8s for me.

I like the 4 - 10 hour days personally.
I have also worked 3 - 12 hours with a 6 hour day, giving me a 3 1/2 day weekend. I worked Sun, Mon, Tue 6 am to 6 pm and Wed 6 to noon. Pretty Sweet since I was not married.....

I say it depends on your needs. I personally find a 4-10 schedule extremely rewarding. That extra 2 hours per day is not so bad if you are really into the work but when Thursday rolls around, it's a three day weekend!

I used to work a 4-10 hour day job, and LOVED it. You're already there for 8 hours, a couple more is no big deal and doesn't change your "free time" per day significantly. But having that extra day off per week is wonderful, it seems like you always have more time to do things. I'd do it again anytime.

Right now 5 8hour days is best. There's little to do and we still have to come in weekends, nights to do real work(IT outsourcer). Even 8 hours is too long right now with a new puppy at home. I would only do 10 hour days if it were M,T,Th,F.

It depends on what you prefer. My husband worked 4 10s before and it was great because he had 3 days off, but he was going to work early and coming home kind of late, which wore him out. With the 5 8s, he's home earlier, doesn't have to wake up that early, so after work he has more energy, but then we only get the 2 day break. There's pros and cons to each, you just have to figure out what's right for you.

depends on what works best for you. if you like 3-day weekends and don't mind working longer periods at a time do the 4 10-hour days. i personally like to get more sleep at night even if it means i have to work an extra day.

I work in Electric line construction and the 4-10hour work days are the best, it allows for more work to be done in a shift and besides you get a 3-day weekend every week and then on my job if there is Overtime it is scheduled on Friday which works out great. Although I also don't work in inclement weather so if there is a rain day during the week the make up day is on Friday, but all and all it is a pretty good work situation for me.
