Take prenatal vits too. It helps body prepare for preg. by supplying it with all essential vits and nutrients.
Check out www.tcoyf.com . We got the book when we were at a year of ttc and no luck. that month we conceived! She's 11 months old now!!
The folic acid is excellent to take now, as is the vits. It will not help achieve pregnancy any quicker or easier. (At first I thought it did too. Its just good to take it way ahead of getting preg so that your body has sufficient supply I guess?)
Anyway. Taking charge of your fertility. that's the book. It explains alot and is quite useful.
I hope this helps?
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!
Hope there's a baby in your very near future!!!
:o)

If you take prenatal vitamins they will have the amount of folic acid you need and MORE, lots of vitamins ans minerals! you need the whole package. Folic acid itself and/or prenatal vitamins won't get youpregnant, however they will help you be healthier for whenever the time comes, it is known that folic acid plays a great roll in preventing miscarriages so it will be great that when you get pregnant your body will be ready for the baby. Try this website www.preseed.com, I used this product and got pregnant the month I used it. Good luck!

Folic acid and prenatal vitamins will not help you conceive, just boost your levels of essential vitamins and minerals that are healthy for the fetus once you do. My advice, is take the pressure off of trying and enjoy your intimate time with your husband. I have had many friends who only got pregnant when they stopped trying. Also, better your odds by trying the most in the middle of your cycle (days 12-17 from the first day of your period) if you are usually regular.
Good luck!

Folic acid will not help you concieve. It's only to prevent some birth defects that can take place in the first few weeks after conception..........This is my standard answer......... go get a book called Taking Charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler
This book will help you with all of your menstrual and conception questions. It’s for all women - not just women trying to conceive. It covers everything from temperature to mucus checking, etc.. It will help you understand your body and all the myths about it. It will help you time when you are ovulating and the best times to conceive – or not! It tells you how to figure out your cycle and what to expect. My husband and I tried for a year to conceive and nothing happened. The first month I used the book we conceived right away. Now I am due Feb 2. It's about knowing your body and knowing when you are fertile or not. You can pick and choose what you do with your info. Good luck and don't listen the all the myths!

The folic acid will not ensure pregnancy however it will ensure good health of baby once you conceive. Most gyns usually do prescribe prenatal vitmains once you begin ttc---I think it is a good idea. Also you should purchase (or loan from the library) this book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility"---it is the bible for women ttc-----this book is totally amazing!!!!! Unfortunately 5 months is not considered a long time in terms of ttc, hang in there---baby will come---and get that book it uncover many ttc mysteries----this is great online resource www.fertilityfriend.com----excellent especially if you love being online

Folic acid is not for helping you conceive. All women need folic acid. When a woman has enough folic acid before and during pregnancy, it can help prevent major birth defects of her baby’s brain or spine.
Be sure to get enough folic acid every day. Start before you are pregnant. Folic acid is needed during the first few weeks, often before a woman knows she is pregnant. And half of all pregnancies in the U.S. are not planned. That is why it’s so important to start taking folic acid each day, even when you are not planning to get pregnant.
You might not have calculated your ovulation date right - for information on this see http://www.babycenter.com/refcap/484.html
Good luck.

You should be taking a reg. vitamin. Vitamins dont really increase your chances of getting pregnant. They just help you to be healthy when you do become pregnant. Just make sure you are taking atleast 400 mcg of folic acid daily total so you can help protect against nueral tube defects if you become pregnant. Those defects happen during day 22-28 pregnancy, even before you can take a test to see if you are pregnant.

folic acid doesnt help youget pregnant despite the fact that it reduces the probability of start up defects once you do become pregnant. I take it as i'm ttc. there is very low probability bearing directly to taking folic acid because it is water soluble so as which you just about merely pee it out. do not take folic acid pills in case you're taking pre-natal foodstuff as there is already folic acid in the vits. you dont opt to take too much as that is risky once you do become pregnant. dont take extra desirable then one million mg of folic acid an afternoon in the adventure that your now not pregnant.

Folic acid won't help you conceive, it's good to take it when ttc because it's very important for early fetal development - especially those 2 weeks before most of us even know we're pregnant.
Do you know when you are ovulating for sure? Don't rely on ovulation calculators on web-sites. Not every woman ovulates the same time each month - even with regular cycles. The best way to know if and when you are ovulating is to chart your daily basal body temperatures. You can buy a basal thermometer (also called a fertility thermometer) at most drug stores for about $10-$15. Take your temp each morning before getting out of bed. You can download bbt charts off the internet to track your temps or go to fertilityfriend.com. You can chart your temps for free on their web-site. You can also get valuable info on their web-site about various signs of ovulation and when is the best time to conceive. BBT charts are also useful tools for your OB to diagnose certain fertility problems.
If you haven't been to your OB yet, I strongly suggest making an appointment and letting him/her know you are ttc. Get an exam and some routine tests done to rule out some problems, like hormone imbalances, that may interfere with conception. I don't believe in waiting a year to seek professional help. It's better to rule out any medical issues first. If you wait a year to do this, you just wasted a year. I know this from experience.
Best of luck to you.

Stella, folic acid and vitamins are needed after you get pregnant to improve the health of the foetus. They can't get you pregnant.
To get pregnant you must have sex on a day that your eggs are being released.
After the 3rd day from the day that menses started put a thermometer into your mouth and check your body temperature every morning before you start turning in bed. The best time is at about 4 a.m. Maintain a chart. You will find that on one day the body temperature drops from 1/2 degree to one degree. This is the day that your eggs are being released. If you want to get pregnant this is the day that you must have sex. Tell your husband to ejaculate on his inward thrust so that the sperms will shoot deep inside.
After having sex you must stay in bed for about 30 mins with your knees bent up with a pillow under your buttocks so that the sperms will not pour out - to enable them to travel up.
Get your husband to save his sperms in the testacles for at least 3 days before sex to enable them to mature well to do their job.
