since your fingernails are essentially dead cells there is nothing that will make them grow faster- anything that says that it will make them grow faster is just using deceptive marketing ploys. Also, like hair, trimming does not make it grow faster because it grows from the root, not the end.
What helps (and may make it seem to grow faster) is doing things that will make them stronger. Your nails dont seem to grow because they are constanty chipping, breaking or wearing down.
Constantly wearing nail polish will actually weaken the nail and contribute to this problem.
Good vitamins, gelatin, and keeping your hands well moisturized will go a long way towards helping to keep your nails strong. Good nutrition all the way around, B vitamins, lots of green veggies, and cutting the sugar will help.
Moisturizing with a good healthy moisturizer every time you wash your hands will contribute to stronger nails that appear to grow faster.

Gelatin does not help your nails grow. Period, sentence done. Garlic probably doesn't do much aside from make you stink. What makes your nails stronger and longer is protein. That's what they're made of, anyway. Biotin (Vitamin H?) is said to be great for nails and hair, so a supplement of that would surely help.

I don't know about garlic. I do know that calcium helps. Since I starting eating more dairy products and talking calcuim pills, I cannot keep my nails from growing to some obsene length. Unless I cut or file them once a week, I look like those cheezy fake nails.
Edit: Garlic is very good for your immune system though to fight colds.

Not sure about the garlic thing, but you need calcium to help your nails grow.
Incorporate more milk in your diet.
Also, i've even heard of people soaking their hands in milk
Another solution may be to start taking a vitamin. I found a very useful hair and nail vitamin at my local beauty supply store.
Check yours and nearby pharmacies

Calcium won't do squat to help your nails grow:
>Dietary calcium intake has nothing to do with the quality of your fingernails or your toenails. Consuming more calcium will not make your nails less brittle or smoother or grow faster. Nor will it prevent those occasional white spots on the fingernails (which are called “leukonychia,” and are usually caused by some long-forgotten injury to the base of the nail or by an allergic reaction to nail polish, and which disappear as the nail grows out).
A study reported in the December 14, 2000, issue of The New England Journal of Medicine, by Dr. Ian R. Reid of the University of Auckland in New Zealand showed that calcium supplements showed that there is NO correlation between taking calcium supplements and nail quality.

vitamins a lot of water helps keep your nails healthy and a nail cream will go a long way its helps keep the skin moist and the nails strong. I know that sally hansen has a line of polishes and oils that are designed to encourage nail growth and are not too expensive.

Garlic is good for your blood, gelatin in any form (jello) will help your nails grow. They are basically protein, so if you eat things high in protein! It will also help your hair.

it helps harden/strengthen your nails when you peel them nd poke your finger into the garlic itself. since the nails are stronger, breakeage is limited therefore letting you grow your nails...it does not however instantly let your nails grow like jacks beanstalk or anything...trimming regularly speeds growth...

Honey, the only thing that garlic will do for you is make the public ostracize you. If you want your nails to grow, eat gelatine-containing food, like jelly, instead.
