They aren't dangerous or a problem as long as you take care of your eyes and keep the lenses clean and sterile. There are various types of lenses, from disposables to permanent hydrophilic. You have to know what you're looking for before you can compare prices and factor in the cost of maintenence supplies like solution and cleaner.

Have a look at various contact lenses that are out there and you'll see there is a lot of variety in what colored contacts look like. Some of them look very cheap and tacky. If you don't want to be obvious about it, you'll want to select a higher quality lens, probably at a higher price.

The risks are the same for colored contact as for regular contacts.

I've seen girl as young as 12 or 13 wearing contacts, it just depends on if you are willing to take care of them or not. If you don't take care of them bad things can happen. By bad I mean eye infections, blindest.

As far as expense, it also depends on daily wear, extended wear (I wouldn't recommend them), disposable, your prescription etc.

Don't just do it to change your eye color. If you don't need glasses don't get them.

As far as putting them in, when you get your contacts they'll show you two or three ways of putting them in. I use two hands while my wife uses one.

By the way I've been wearing contacts for something like 25 years now, and never had a problem, but I also keep really good care of my lenses and my eyes.

Good luck

Colour contact lenses are not dangerous at all, I happen to have two pairs myself. I got my colour lenses at a beauty supply store for 20 bucks, and I've had them for about a month. They are also comfortable. But if this is your first time buying contacts they might feel a bit uncomfortable but that's until you get use to them.

You can buy them from online websites, like 800 contacts. 1 box which would have 3 pairs is usually $40. Most come in one size so you don't really need to get fitted for them. I use the freshlook colorblends. I bought them and my husband, boyfriend at that time, taught me how to put them in and take them out. After a few hours, like 4-6 they get a little uncomfortable. My husband says that the colored lens are not as comfortable as the regular ones. Here is a link to the ones I use :

As long as you take them out nightly, then there is no risk. They cost about $45.00 for a box, they last for about 4-6 weeks. And it just takes practice to put them in correctly. You'll get the hang of it soon! GOOD LUCK!

For comfortable colored lens, you might want to try Define. There is a new color brown. It is 1-day wear so it is more flexible, you don't have to wear everyday. If you are a new wearer, talk to the optical shop, they will guide you
