Remote Viewing is the psychic ability to see what's happening at a chosen location while you're located elsewhere. The link below gives a more thorough description.
Supposedly, the KGB and CIA used psychics to gather intelligence via remote viewing.

Remote viewing is the process of using "sensitive" people to enter in a trance like state to see far off objects, people, or situations. The Soviet Union and the United States employed views for years in clandestine groups trying to spy on each other. Some of these actions have been publicized and talked about but as a whole they were eventually shifted to the "research" realms and out of main stream espionage.

The term refers to psychics that use their powers to find ICBM sites and stuff for the government. The project was canceled in the early 1990's because there was no longer enough money to support frivilous projects that were unreliable.

Another word for it could be "remote sensing", which means true-color or false color satellite imagery which allows to determine how much vegetation is active in a given area, or e.g. how far forest fires are spread (using infrared radiation).
Remote viewing might also refer to spy satellites.
