And do you wash them with soap everytime, and shampoo their hair? I was told not to wash my son's hair and body everytime I bathe him because it will dry his skin and scalp out. I bathe him everynight, just to relax him and get him into a routine, but not with soap, just let him splash around for a little while. What about everyone else, what do you do?

I WOULD GIVE MY SON A BATH EVERY NIGHT TO RELAX HIM AND GET HIM USE TO IT. I WOULD ONLY USE SOAP EVERY OTHER NIGHT AND WASH HIS HAIR TWICE A WEEK. GOOD DIAPER CHANGING METHODS MEANS YOUR BABY REALLY DOESN'T NEED A BATH EVERY NIGHT JUST A GOOD WASH UP WOULD BE FINE.THEM I WOULD LOTION HIM DOWN GOOD EVERY NIGHT TO FIGHT HIS DRY SKIN!

I put soap in the bath every time, but then only run the washcloth over his head. I also did it every night as part of the bedtime routine, so I used scented soaps with lavendar to help relax him.

Where we live, it's super dry, and both my husband and I have naturally dry skin. So we also do lotion after the bath, a little mini-massage before the PJs. Our pediatrician always comments on how soft his skin is, so I don't think the soap in the bath is hurting any.

Oh- and my son is now 15 months and still has very little hair, and it's super super fine. So to this day I haven't shampood his hair- just use the all over body soap on a washcloth and it seems to work fine.

When my daughter was 5 months old i believe she bathed every 3rd day. Of course she was wiped down with a warm wash cloth or baby wipe on the other days, but shes always had dry skin. I always follow her baths with Aveno Baby cream head to toe (started this when she was a baby doing baby massage).

Shes now almost 2 years old. Over the summer she was bathed daily however now that it is cooling off out, we are now bathing her every other day. She still needs lotion at this age, however her hair is down her back and gets into EVERYTHING so it needs to be washed at each bath.

Just use your judgement. Thats what parenting is all about.

We bathe our baby twice a week and have since we vrought her home from the hospital. Until her umbilical fell off, it was sponges baths, but since then she has had a bath in her little tub twice a week. We use something gentle like Johnson's every time, and we wash hair and body with it, and once she is out and dry, we put baby lotion all over her (except her hair of course). We haven't had any problem with her skin being dry or anything. She loves her bath though!

I bathe my 4 1/2 month old every second day..I wash her hair and wash her body with baby shampoo. I've been told that its only when they are younger that they are prone to get a dry scalp if you wash their hair everytime...Just make sure you dry it well along with his body....A routine is a good thing as well if it helps calm him...

It will give him dry skin. Just use soap every other day. Make sure you wash his face, hands and bottom good everynight. You are doing the right thing getting him into a routine.

you are right on track. my ped says the same thing about no soap everyday. we only bathe our 6 month old 2-3 times a week and use soap everytime, but if you are going the everyday route, keep the soap for only a few times a week. I would use soap everyday for "top and tail" washing around their neck and face, and also the diaper area to keep clean.

What you're doing sounds good. Use a mild baby shampoo/soap, like Johnson & Johnson's every other day or so. Also, use a baby lotion all over after every bath to help prevent dry skin.

i used to wash my baby girl with soap all the time.usuallyy everyday. initially i used the head to toe baby wash and then seperate soap and shampoo when she was a little older (7-8 months)
i didnt have any problem with drying but i also used to massage her with baby oil almost everyday so thaa might be the reason. i dont use that much oil anymore though and she is still doing well

he gets a bath every couple of days. like, every 3rd day (2 days in between). i use soap and shampoo then. he goes to bed fine for me so i don't worry about that as part of the routine. but, when he does have a bath, i let him splash and play a bit. it's fun.
