If it reads 925 on the clasp and is gold colored, it is gold plated sterling silver as 925 is the marking for sterling silver. Every gold chain should have the gold content on the clasp 10K, 14K, 18K, 22K, and 24K for pure gold. You do not normally see 24K gold jewelry because the gold is too soft to make jewelry that will last. For example pure gold is measured 24 parts, if it reads 10K on the clasp, it is 10 parts gold to 14 parts of base metal that is usually nickel or bronze. Do not ever dip in bleach, scratch, or wear while swimming as doing this will damage the gold. Also the answer that said that if you are iron deficient it would turn the skin black, it isn`t the iron deficiency that turns the skin black, it is the acid content. Persons who have high a content of acid in their system, gold jewelry or any metal for that matter, will turn the skin black. This is how jewelers test jewelry that is not stamped. We use a acid kit to determine the content of the gold. You really do not want to buy a chain or jewelry that does not have the gold content stamped on any piece that looks gold. You will also see chains that read 14K plumb, Italian or Italy. The chains that are marked this are the best quality as the gold jewelry has not been re-made from scrap gold. If it just reads 14K, your chances are the gold jewelry is re-made from scrap gold. Hope this helps.

All solid gold jewelry (not plated) will have a small stamp mark saying 9k, 10k, 14k, or 18k gold on it. Often it's on the clasp and very small. If it's not stamped, don't buy it. Avoid GP (gold plated), HGP (heavy gold plated) or HGEP (heavy gold electroplated) since none of those are solid gold.

The gold from England will often be 9k, from America 14k or 10k, and from Europe 18k. Good luck!! : }

a lot of people lack enough iron in their diets, and rubbing real gold on their face (ie. a gold ring) will leave pale black marks. You can try this on yourself with a known piece of gold, and see if you have this reaction. If you do, then you can employ this testing technique when there's a gold piece in doubt.

All gold jewelry is required to have a small engraved stamp. This is usually located near the clasp.

there are different types or amount of gold per metal.. like 24karot, 22, 20, 18(most common to wear) etc.. 24karot is soft and bends easily, but most gold per volume of metal.. just go take it somewhere else and have it appraised..

It should have the numbers 925 inscribed sumwhere on the clasp. Also it should not change colors, shouldnt break u out in anyway. U can always take it into a jewelry store and have it inspected.
