Today I know of few true racists. But the area that does still burn deeply among us and take dislikes to anybody not of our background (normally muslims) is the fact they seem to try at every turn to change our society into the one they left at home. However when I look into this it isn't that they are trying to change us, it's that our councillers and government that are trying to score brownie points from the PC brigade and are if fact inciting racial hatred?
If you agree with this, do you also agree that people such as the Board of the British Red Cross should face criminal charges of inciting racial hatred by cancelling the allowance of christmas produce or POS in their stores to 'avoid' offending Muslims?

I just wanted to say thanks for all your answers, guess the variance in answers shows how diverse the subject is. I hope for everybodies sake though that I am not alone in being surrounded by so few racists, and that many people are exaggerating the depth of it's existance in their part of society.

Could be the power of the UK national press. The word 'influence' comes to mind. Didn't the main man for the BNP once tell us the 'tabloids' were the best pals they had (or something along those lines).

By all means, let's shut down a charitable organization that does untold good around the world! The fiends!
The Red Cross is a SECULAR organization that has a policy that no "overtly religious" decorations in its stores. As such, about 4 years ago, a second hand store was told to take the nativity scene out of its window, and religious nuts took that as a sign that the Red Cross is banning Christmas and discriminating against Christians. Even though, of course, the Red Cross has never been associated with any religion, is a SECULAR organization, and has strived to remain religously-neutral. I have not found any articles on banning Christmas merchandise from their stores, just decorations, and in fact found several Christmas items for sale on their website.
Why should a SECULAR organization not make an effort to remain SECULAR?

I belive that a big majority of us are scared stiff of being racist,i definately am,the british empire had a lot to do with earlier generations been racists.I grew up with a racist dad and all my mates were racists, we would watch tv programmes that were racist like(love thy neighbour) and the new coloured kids at school would certainly get some stick,we didn't really know any better back in the seventies. You are certainly right to say that the government play a big part in all of this, as far as i am concerned it is they who are saying to us (we order you to live in a multi national society and there shall be no bitter feelings).
Politicians and the like seem to expect us all to bend over backwards to accomodate what ever culture they decide to house in our country and as i come from bradford originally i have seen the big divides between the different cultures,my own kids chased and beaten up for going into town to shop other people saying that they avoid bradford city center because of intimidation from other cultures. As far as our government is concerned it is only ourselves who are racists and yes in doing so they incite racial hatred

We should not even be discussing racism. We are Americans. No matter what color you are, religion you are, or what sex or sexual preference you are, if you live in America, pay taxes in America, and believe that the next guy, regardless of who he is, has the same rights, then you are an American.
Now, give your brother or sister a hug and lets get to work on the issues that will actually haunt us.
P.S. Hey thinkingman, true racists do exist. I would be most happy to introduce you to one. Just dont expect me to hang around and listen to his ramblings, I already went down that long road and was sorry that I even stepped that direction. They exist, and it aint pretty.
I apologize for assuming that you are American. With the stupidity goin on here about Mexicans adn Blacks, I get tunnel vision. Race and Religion will keep all mankind at war with each other til the end of time.

What planet do you live on? You don't know any true racists? That is almost laughable. You need to get out more and smell the dead roses! Racism is alive and well in America and the world. Racism is an institutional anomaly that is manifested in the form of social, political, and employment under-representation. Racism also knows no boundaries and is not specific toward a particular group nor is it specific from a particular group. White on Black Racism gets the most attention in the media and throughout history but it is not the only Racism present. If you do your homework you can see that Racism is growing fastest among same Race peoples. What that means is we are seeing more Black on Black, White on White, and so on. Perhaps what you are thinking is more people who have Racist values are getting better and faking not being Racist. Any way you slice this pie, Racism is a reality of todays society with no easy answers. It does not matter what your background is, you can be a "victim" (I dislike victimology!).
Good luck in that fantasy world of yours. Perhaps the Aryan Nation will let you join up so you can get to know some real Racists?

These councils make you sick saying that we are offending one religious group or another just by celebrating Christmas or even mentioning the word Christmas. The Muslims have said that we should preserve our Christmas traditions and their holy book apparently mentions Jesus being born of a virgin - so I do think that the councils are stirring up racism.
From what you say the British Red Cross are trying to be ridiculously PC too and are in the same boat as the councils. As you say, maybe they should all face criminal charges - or at least be made to realise their mistake.

racism exists because people want to be with their own kind. it does not always mean hatred, but it does mean, basically, NIMBY
(not in my back yard). when a decision is made which is supposedly "politically correct", it is based on neither legality nor morality. i am not familiar with the Board of British Red Cross, nor with English law, but i doubt if they could be tried on criminal charges. public opinion could hurt their efforts to operate their charity, however.

With out under standing ,what drives a group of people to co exist , you are leaving out the key element , in a puzzle that requires all the pieces ,in order for you to see the whole picture clearly .
Many lies and half truths are part of the fundamental whole in a society . The forces which bind a community are common ancestors ,religion and political philosophy .
Unless you combined these key pieces to the puzzle together you have major differences within a group of people .
Racism is driven by differences that may be visible or not so visible .
Take for instance the number of black Americans who to this day do not like whites for reasons of past injustices .
IS there anyway to move past the problems that where driven by racism in our not so distant past and the number of people who today speak PC unless within the social setting they feel comfortable in .
I for instance am not racist but many of the people i have contact with are .
Not so that you would notice unless you paid particular attention to the use of the word them ,those and they when applied to a specific group . I listen when news reports show black criminals being arrested and often here people use well you know those people are just more prone to commit crimes because of how they are raised in single family homes without a male role model around them .
This all to often is said by people who claim to be free from racism and do not fully comprehend the actions they them selfs perpetuate upon a group of people . Your particular question mentions Muslims and does not say that the religiously motivated people tend to push the religion they practice upon others in an effort to create more like minded people in order to co-exist in a more uniformed and Socially accepted manner .
I have found that the group most responsible for racism is the one that tries so hard to be politically correct in dealing with others who are different .
Being unable to speak racist language and thoughts that naturally occur among them they have developed key words and phrases that are acceptable to minority groups to limit the amount of hate instigated by their speech .
They often tend to hide their own deep feelings of hatred of those who do not act speak and believe as they do .
So offending religious people is a matter of simple ignorance on the part of those offended ,just the same as offending others is the ignorance of those who offend .
Racism is a power word that comes with many meanings attached to it .
I am a child predator racist , I hate all of them ,or am I just correct in asserting my point of view that having sex with children before they have matured into adulthood and are ready to reproduce should be free from any sexual acts that are designed for reproduction or satisfy a carnal lust .
Could it be that child predators are not a race but rather a group or fall into a group .
Just like many poor Americans who happen to be of a minority race within the community they live.
When a system produces equal numbers or should i say percentages of people with the same skills education and concepts as the whole racism will cease to exist .Till that time it takes two to tango and one racist is only a fool while a million is a tragedy of our system to create equality .

1) there are plenty of racists of all colors.
2) Islam isn't a race.
3) Hatred for Islam isn't about race or religion, it's hatred of those who want to kill us.
4) I find incomprhensible your assertioin that the Red Cross somehow causes people to dislike Islam.
5) PC is against disliking people just because they want to kill us.
