I have heard of Depo Provera but it only lasts 3 months or you could have a Paraguard IUD put in place it has no hormones and is good for 10 years, and is more effective than the pill.

The shot has alot of side effects and if you've never taken any birth control before, start with the pill and see what you think of the estrogen.

If you have any bad reactions to the pill, (migrane headaches, weight gain, etc) you can always stop taking the pill and the side effects stop within a couple of days.

If you get the shot and have a bad reaction (I had an etopic due to the shot), you can't just get the medicine out of your system. Its there til it wears off, no matter how miserable you might feel about it.

I suggest start with the pill and see what you think. Just be sure to follow your doctor's instructions on taking it!
And if you still want to know about the shot, research Depro Vera the pros and cons before getting it done!

They had given me a single dose of Depo. Which is a birth control shot. At the time i didnt know the side effects however I gained 135 pounds off of it aswell as it stopped my period for 2 years my best advice is go with the Pill because the shot side effects could be extreme. However it is still best to talk with your doctor

I took the shot for a while but I didn't like it. My period was very irregular and it seemed like I was always spotting or having my period. I'm very regular on the pill and I don't have any problem remembering to take it which is really about the only drawback to the pill. I think most of the side affects are the same for both.

It's been around for a long time now. It lasts 3 months, though, not 6. It's not as safe as the pill and it isn't recommended that you use it for more than 2 years because of some of the damages it causes.

I was on the pill for 5 years and never had a problem with them and never forgot to take them. The best way to remember them is to put them next to your tooth brush and take them in the morning when you brush your teeth. That way it is hard to miss them. The shot is ok, but friends that have had it gain a lot of weight. I'm talking 30 lbs plus. The patch is also good if you are not allergic to adhesives, like in my experience. There is also the ring... I never tried that, but after all, it is your body and your decision and the best person to talk to you about these things is your health care provider.

Yes, Ive had it before. Talk to your doctor about side effects. I was a raging maniac after I got the shot and I gained 20 lbs. Obviously this doesnt happen to everyone or it wouldnt exsist anymore but I'd still talk to the doc about it before you decide.
