no, just make sure it gets air circulating under it because it can get hot, i haven't even restarted my laptop in over 4 months. you can get a, i guess it'd be a laptop "surface"?, at an office supply store that has fans on the bottom pointing up. i don't use one , i just lean it up against my desktop when i'm not using it, but no it won't hurt anything.

best to shut down when its not in use.. I had a model about 3 years old that seems to overheat after sometime which then resulted in total failure. seems to be a trend that after 2 years they seem to experience problems after the warranty..

with my laptop keeping it on all the time seems to slow it down and hampers the internet connectivity. i usually keep mine on all day and shut it down overnight, but i guess it depends on what laptop you have

Just leave it on standyby,if your not gonna use if for a few hours..Mine has been on standby for months at night.
