There is no evidence that getting a tattoo will affect breastfeeding. There should be no harm to mom or baby from the dyes injected. If you get a tattoo, the biggest concern for anyone (not just nursing moms) is infection (hepatitis or HIV)-- so make sure the place you go has good references and is clean.

definately wait until you are done nursing. In case of infection you don't want to have to take anti biotics. Not all antibiotics are okay to take when nursing and depending on how bad the infection is you may have to pump and dump. Also...now is probably not the right time to make such a huge decision with your hormones all over the place...you may regret it later. I SO badly wanted one with my son but didn't end up getting it. I'm SO glad now. Once I'm done nursing my 7 month old daughter I will likely get one that is some sort of tribute to them. Good luck!

I would wait until you're done nursing, theres always a risk of infection when you get a tattoo, not too mention any other diseases that you could possibly pick up, and theres no point in possibly harming your baby when you could wait a little while longer until you're done nursing,, that's what my plan is. I've been waiting my whole pregnancy to get my tattoo, what's a couple more months to protect your babies health?

Because of the risk of contamination (even with needles that have been through the Autoclave sterilization), I would wait. Aside from that, I don't believe there is any risk. Hepatits infection is rampant coming out of tattoo parlors. Luckily, my friend owns the shop I got my done at and I got a new needle straight out of the package. Most places use the Autoclave sterilization process.
