X^-n = 1/(X^n)
so
(-8)^-1 = 1/(-8^1) = -1/8

I don't give out answers, but I will steer you in the right direction. Negative exponents mean "divide by the base this many times." In your case the base is (-8).

For example, x^-y means the same as 1/(x^y).

Hope that's enough to get you started. If not someone else will probably just give you the entire answer, so that you learn nothing. :(

In this case, it's just a matter of remembering a rule:

a^-b = (1/a)^b

In this case:

(-8)^-1 = (1/-8)^1 = (1/-8) = -1/8

well. apply your laws of indices.
for this, it is -1/8.

Laws of indices:
A^m x A^n = A^(m+n)
A^m / A^n = A^(m-n)
(A^m)^n = A^(mn)
(ABC)^n = A^n*B^n*C^n
A^(m/n) = n rt. of A^m
(eg. A^(m/3) = cube root. of A^m
A^0 = 1
(A/B)^n = (A^n) / (B^n)
A^(-m) = 1/(A^m)

Hope this helps=)
