Why is there no law in North America Protecting baby boys from circumsision?
Talk about trauma in the first few weeks of life...having a doctor cut the tip of the infants penis off with a razor. with out any painkillers
Would that not be the equivalent to having a baby girl deflowerd with a test tube?
In my opinion it should be a criminal act to do such a horrible thing to an infant boy for cosmetics or religion, and that parents and doctors should be subjected to punishment for commiting such horrendous acts of violence towards defenseless infants, and any religion that promotes such acts banned.

I think that freedom is allowing the boy to reach an acceptable age to determine for hisself rather or not he would want to have this done to him. Whether as medical procedure or religious ceremony, it should be their choice.

Someone spoke of freedom of religion, how do you know that this boy will grow up to be jewish (or any other faith that practices this)? Lots of religions out there and the child does have freedom of religion, especially when he grows up. When he grows up, he may want to be catholic, wiccan, or even athiest. He may resent that his body was altered to please a religion he does not believe. He may be jewish and grow and not like that particular practice. However, it was forced upon him by his parents. Imagine the uproar if there was a satanist sect that believed that "666" needed to be tattoed on the forehead of every one of their children. Child protective services would be called in less than a heartbeat.

Lets say that medical practices and religion said pinkey fingers are superficial and need to be removed. Would you allow your child to have his (or in this case, her) pinkies removed?

Although most people think of circumsision for religion purposes, there are many good reasons besides cosmetics and religion. (1) Sometimes boy children who have not been circumsisioned get infections at the tip of their penises. You have to be very careful to pull back the foreskin and clean the tip of the penis to stop infections. (2) sometimes the foreskin is so tight that when the boy get old enough for sex, there is little or no pleasure for him in sex. I believe that the health benefits to the boy child outweighs the pain. The pain, in most cases, doesnot last more than a few minutes. The Jewish religion gives the boy a drop of wine as painkiller before circumsision.

The actual equivalent is having a baby girl's clitoral hood removed. It is a very small piece of skin that protects the clitoris (which is what would develop into foreskin and penis if she had the Y chromosome)

I believe that it should be banned.

I also think that you need to respect religions and realize that they are changing. More and more Jews are using gender neutral naming ceremonies and not circumcising. No need to ban the religion, just the circumcision.

Seriously when will people realise that beyond a certain amount of pain babies just shut down, they do not cry.

Oh and my husband's foreskin doesn't retract and he has lots of fun. ;-)

Well then I am guilty 3 times and if I ever had another baby boy I would do it again. They DO give pain killers and they do numb the incision site. None of my children had any problems after wards. They were fine. I was scared that they were going to be in a ton of pain and they weren't.

Well go get your facts straight and then we can discuss the issues. First of all they do NUMB the area before they cut it off. I went with my nephew when he had his done and he never even so much as cried.
And that one would work wonders.. let's ban any "freedom" because someone else is 'offended' by it or doesnt agree with it. Seriosuly, get a brain.
