Idealy, you should have started taking folic acid supplements or prenatal vitamins 3 months to 6 monts prior to getting pregnant.
But by all means, start today!!! Folic acid helps prevent neural tube defects in the baby, such as spina bifida. The earlier, the better. But just start today!

Also, get a copy of "What to Expect When You're Expecting" its a great book that outlines not only what to expect, but what you should eat and other "do's and don'ts".

Good luck!

No, you should not wait the folic acid should be taken as soon as you find out you are pregnant. A good method is by taking prenatal vitamins from the time you find out you are pregnant.

If you are not taking prenatal vitamins, then take folic acid! That is actually good to take before you get preggo as well. However, if you have already gone to the doc... and they prescribed the prenantal vitamins, those have all the nutrients you need, so you won't have to take folic acid anymore. goodluck and congrats!

you should actually start taking folic acid before you even get pregnant since the neuro tube defects that it helps to prevent often are determined before you would know you were pregnant. Anyway it's always good to take vitamins.

Start your prenatal vitamins asap. Also, there is a vitamin supplement called Lipil that is made by the makers of baby formula. You can find it in the vitamin dept. of your local pharmacy. It is for the development of your baby's brain...take that too. Also, drink lots of water and eat lots of healthy foods. Take care of yourself and exercise regularly...walking is great. Get plenty of sleep..as you will discover that lack of sleep will become a big deal! And if you need any other info, you are welcome to e mail me at Sunshine4Jason@yahoo.com
