in a way it does encourage idleness and apathy because you are only sitting down watching tv. i know i was!!!

there are so many shows i like, that i started to gain weight and i've always being really skinny. next thing i know, im 15 pounds extra on me.

before i was always out doing stuff, going out with friends, etc. i have always watched tv but i dont think they way i was watching it before.

now, im playing tennis with friends, hanging out all the time i can. i record what i want to watch and get to it when i can. i still have lots of shows i dont want to miss them.

i stopped painting and being creative. my 15 yr old son is playing so many games in the tv that he's not doing anything else. its hard to break that with him. i realize what i was doing to myself and i stop but how do i teach my son the same. he knows im playing tennis and being active in different things but its a hard habit to break!!!

I don;t think that TV makes people fat since anyone that looks at pictures and portraits since time began will note that they depicts fat and skinny people.

I don;t feel that it reduces creativity but it inspires people to greater creativity. Think of it this way inorder to atract people you have to continue to change what you do

TV is not a tool for social control because before tv there were societal norms

Children have always been morans look at the flapper they were the bane of parents existence before tv.

People socialize regardless

I think that TV is a fantastic idea if it was used properly. The fact that it can show anyone (who can afford one of course) the whole world right on their doorstop which they would never have seen before and probably never would. Yo can see nature, wars, different cultures and learn so much nd become more knowledgable. But unfortunately most people like watching sh*t like celebrity this and celebrity that with losers that were never celebrities in the first place. Reality TV and a load of crappy soaps. Shame that human beings as a mass are as thick as sh*t.

Who pays for television production? Unless it's a state channel like the BBC, it's advertisers.

What do the advertisers want? To get you to buy their product. And the best way they have to get you to do just that is to 'help' you feel unsatisfied with what you already have. And they target legitimate needs too, like love, security, confidence, happiness.

Watching television means exposing yourself to that message over and over again. To make it worse, they've figured out that programming which makes people feel anxious, frightened, lonely, and insecure is the perfect context in which to peddle their 'solutions'.

I think yes to all of these questions, but I also think it can be a useful, and it's people fault for misusing it, aka watching it all the time! but in this way it's like 100 other things that people do that with, food, alcohol, the computer, gambling...it's how you use it not what it is

Depends on what you're watching and how much you watch it. Just like with food. Some foods can be harmful, particularly if you don't eat anything but that harmful food. You can have as many vegetables as you like, though, generally speaking.

The main problem I think it's that we stop relating ideas on own own, which can be defined as Thinking. So we start depending on ideas and thought to be related by others so that we can understand and comprehend.

Like everything in our world, it can be used for good or bad! It can open our minds to other realities, or close our minds to our own.
