What was the outcome on the 32 week scan and also when the baby was born?

thanks for your answers so far! I am not overly concerned as the nurse said it was fairly common and the baby only has a mild case. I found out a few days later that my friend's daughter had the same thing but was clear at 32 weeks.

Yes, my son had it at his 20 week ultrasound and then again on the 32 week ultrasound. They did an ultrasound at birth and since it was still present, he went home on an antibiotic. He had a voiding cystourethrogram at 7 days which showed that there was no backwards movement of urine into the kidneys, so he was able to be taken off of the medicine. An ultrasound at 2 months showed it was resolved. They rechecked him at 1 year and it was also fine. My doctor told me it was a very common problem that requires monitoring, but is not much of a problem if known about. The baby just needs antibiotics so that they don't get renal infections from the backward flow of urine.

This is actually more common than you think. Even if it still shows on the 32 week scan the majority of babies are clear at birth. If it is still present at 32 weeks your baby will get antibiotics for the first 4-6 weeks of live then be rescanned. In the majority of babies the dilatation has gone by then, Interestingly enough, it is more common in boys than girls. Try not to worry as it is unusual for there to be a serious problem.

Yes my daughter had that show up and gan on her 32 week scan. When her daughter was born they put her on mild antibiotics for 4 weeks then scanned her kidneys at 6 weeks - all was clear. I'm sure its nothing to worry about - they wouldnt leave it to chance if there was something seriously wrong xx

Not personally but a good friend had this with her son. He is fine now - just had to have some early antibiotics. Don't worry!
