My mother has watered her houseplants with cold tea
for over 40 yrs.
are her plants any healthier than just water ?
i do not know, maybe she just has a real green thumb
but my mum has plants that are 3 times bigger than they should be,flower every three to four months no matter what time of year it is
and they all are a realy dark dark green like I have never seen before.and they are strong and thick and healthey
and all she does is make a pot of tea twice a day
whatever is left in the pot she fills up to full with tap water
and waters her plants in the morning around 7:00 a.m.
and again in the evening around 9:00 p.m.
she has had the same plants for 40 years
and has giving cuttings to hundreds of people
they never have aphids or bugs or yellow leaves
does tea help ? I do not know
but she swears by it ...........

My mother-in-law put used tea leaves into her flower pots more for compost and loosening the soil than for any other reason. There is always some value to using any kind of organic material to maintain the soil in your flower containers or garden patches. Go ahead and use them, but break open the bags and stir the leaves into the topsoil.

They can and do, especially when tossed into a compost heap. Adding peelings from fruits and veggies, egg shells, coffee ground, tea bags, and even newpaper make excellent comport materials. You can do this on a small scale, by just tossing in garden beds, or even in a garbage can with holes drilled in the bottoms and sides for air and water release and intake, and to keep small rodents and animals out. This is free fertilizer for your plants and believe me, makes a big difference over time. Good luck!

As far as I know, tea has no beneficial effect on plant growth. A little probably won't harm, but excess might create problems with acids from the tea. Sounds like a science experiment in the making.

As long as it is not from a flavored tea it is fine. Coffee grounds are also a great fertilizer. Egg shells too.

there is nothing in tea bags that in themselves would encourage flowers to grow but they are certainly a good addition to your compost heap.

I don't have a clue how, but my mom uses them in all her gardening and her yard is amazing. She swears by tea bags and used coffee grounds.
