Is there some site online where you can locate prisoners?

I am trying to find out which facility a friend of mine is imprisoned in.

many states have a dept of corrections site with inmate locators...google your state dept of corrections.

Many states have site which allow to search for inmates. The only one I know of for sure is Michigan.

Also, if your inmate is a federal prisoner, you can go to http://www.bop.gov. They have an inmate locator that you can search by name. It includes all incarcerated federal prisoners.
