I prefer fantasy. The Artemis Fowl series, Eragon/Eldest by Christopher Paolini, Javakosh by Jeanette Mirll. For humorous stories, definitely Gordon Korman; try the Twinkie Squad, I Want to Go Home, or the War with Mr. Wizzle.

For a good romance... any of Janette Oke's books.
Like Sci-Fi? "Fahrenheit 451" is a killer!
Mystery? You can never go wrong with a Nancy Drew or Hardy Boys book. They are oldies but goodies.
Need inspiration? Read "Walden" by Henry David Thoreau!
Do you want to learn about the past? Read the diary of Anne Frank.
Want a good chuckle and intricatly woven tale of mystery and comedy? Read Oscar Wilde's "Importance of Being Earnest"

The Last Van Gogh
Lois Lowery Books (Gathering Blue, The Giver)
Gone with the Wind (it's really long, and has some boring parts, but it's my favorite so I had to put it in there)'

"Running with Scissors" by Augusten Burroughs
It is a hilarious memoir on the life of a young Augusten. I highly recommend it. I rarely actually laugh while reading a book, but this one I did.
