lets say i have a band i am ready to manage, what is my next step?

set up gigs for them by contacting venues and negotiating contracts. at first it might be bars or high school proms.
you start calling places that might employ your band and set up when and how much and all the arrangements of the performance. You will need demo tapes etc to "sell" the band to the venues. YOu need lots of other stuff, too. But mainly you set up the gigs. If there is travel involved you may arrange for the band's travel also and other arrangments on the band side.
If they need a van to carry their gear, you might be the one who rents the van. Basically you do all the admin and most of the marketing. And make sure the band gets paid (the venue honors the written contract).
