Lately, I have a feeling it is a combination of the two. You might set out as course for yourself and work hard to achieve the end goal and then, life throws things at you to deal with along the way. Sometimes these things turn you from the path you are following and you end up on a totally different journey from the one you set out on. Other times they just change your point of view.
It's all about how we handle the situations that come our way. We should make our plans and set our goals but we should never hold on to them so blindly that we break when life says we need to change. But then again hard work and determination can get you where you want to go against all the odds. So now I am thinking that it they are so intertwined and unique to each person.
In life so far I have achieved through dedicated work and been thwarted in some of my best efforts to achieve something and now I think of it as some kind of a game because things not going according to plan has brought other situations to my life but, sometimes I am too upset about the failure and only notice in retrospect.
Other times it's just blatant bad luck, and it's hard to be philosophical about that!

I do not believe in 'god' or even like the concept of such because I find their is no evidence and any that may convince me would still leave me skeptical as to its origins. Our existence which we know is our universe, if one does not understand all of the workings which happen here in life, how can one understand the full workings of the cosmos/universe/existence etc. I do not believe in luck, because everything happens for a reason. So that leaves me with determinism, I can't change what happened yesterday, that will always be. After today is finished, its finished and cannot be re-visited. If I cannot change yesterday why should tomorrow be any different? Also if their was free-will how come I didn't get a choice to be alive? How come choices are limited and choices clash? If we had free-will it would be mayhem on a physical level because we would have people who want the same things. Ok people sometimes do want to have sex with the same person for example, their is a reason for everything and its not usually because people have made a decision that they want a person, we are all influenced by what we are made of and the environment we exist in. Finally how come I cannot chose who I fall in love with?

I believe in generational blessings, as well as generational curses. It's biblically based the way I feel. In the end God's will combined with your prayer, hard work and determination will over ride any "bad luck".
Some people really do seem to have all the luck. While some people seem to struggle. I've seen people work hard, and still seem to struggle to accomplish their goals more than people who weren't even trying to accomplish anything.
But it is God's will that everyone be blessed, and to prosper. So if a person does seem to have a lot of bad luck, God is not the one bringing it.
I also believe strongly in the power of words. You have to speak victory over every situation in your life, as well as your friends and family. You have to believe that God is in control, when confronted with any situation.
Hard work and determination gets a lot of points, but in the end you can work your hands to the bone. If God is not in it, it just won't prosper.

A lot is hard work, but occasionally you need a hand. e.g. when you're job hunting. You have to do the hard work like filling in all the applications and attending the interviews, but in the end it's probably going to come down "being the best on the employer's desk and the end of the day" and for that, you need divine intervention/luck/ whatever you want to call it.

I'm not particulalrly religious, and i think if He does exist he is unlikely to spend all his time governing what i do all the time, so i dont think any of it is God. plus there's all that freedom to act stuff, the reason He acnt stop war is cos we have to make our own decisions etc so no, i dont think its God
Fate / Destiny etc., i think sometimes things are fated, or meant to be, but i also think that if you rely too much on fate etc it stops you taking responsibility for doing stuff
Frankt (i think) was a Gestalt therapist who spent many years in concentration camps. He could easily have blamed it on fate, bad luck etc and just died emotionally / mentally. Instead, he beleived that even if we acnt always control the situations we end up in (i.e. other people's will, fate etc) we can control how we react to the situation, our attitudes etc.
So, would say that yes, there are lines of fate running throguh our lives, but we make decisinos each day that pul us along that line or away from it. If i kill someone, it isnt blind fate, its my descision. but maybe i will meet someone in prison who will change me, or me them, in an important way. If i hadnt gone to jail, i might have met them in a theatre or coffee shop 10 years later.Meeting them was fated, but the way i got there wasnt.
i think we have to live our lives like we are totally responsible for what we do, what we think, how we act, what we say and not blame other people / life's circumstabnces or destiny

Ultimately there are no coincidences.
All thought and action converges in divine pathways. The fact that one is motivated to achieve is an inner urging of the will, which leads to outcomes that would not be achieved if not for that will. Conversely, an individual who lacks inner motivation will achieve outcomes that differ from those if he/she possessed a stronger will. The pathos of such thought/action can be empirically observed and measured. The etios, however, cannot. This is rooted in one's inner being, or soul, and is thus tied to one's creation.

One dictates the other... Fate, or God's will will lead you, you need to make the rest "happen."

Well there are some things that will feel out of your control which will be fate luck ect.
But there are other things that you will be able to change even if you feel you can't at first.

both - What's mean't for you won't pass you but things like the train being late and missing the most important job interview of your career feels harsh,- yet opportunities tend to come around again with a slightly different angle/ Approach to them.
