I know I'm going to get alot of thumbs from this one, I'm just sooo tired of people thumbing peoples questions and answers for no reason. Seems like many people these days have a very narrow view of the world. I mean come on! This is the Philosophy section, no answer or question is wrong. Yes some are hard to comprehend but never wrong.

LOL... and so the thumbs begin their work. Thanks.

But not all answers or questions that are given thumbs downs are moronic. Are they?

Ok fair enough, so we are all entitled to our own opinions I get it.

giving the thumb does offer some satisfaction but flagging someone is where it's at, though you have to have a good reason for that.

Anyway, I agree, people do seem very narrow minded but abstract thinking is an upper developmental stage that some people never reach even in adulthood, it's a shame.

I have my profile set so that I don't even see answers with two thumbs down.

I usually give thumbs down for two reasons.
1. If the answer was stupid or useless. Many times people are just trying to be a pain in the @$$. They get a thumbs down.
2. If the answer is wrong. If I feel that the person's answer is wrong, I give it a thumbs down. Not to try to insult the person, but just another way to vote against an answer.

Did you know? Giving a person a thumbs up will also give them a point. I try to "thumbs up" any answers that are accurate or valid. It's a nice way to be rewarded when you don't necessarily have the best answer, but you have a good answer.

A thumbs down wouldn't make me feel better. I have a life. However, I haven't given a thumbs down yet - why should I? But if something is good, I will email the person (doesn't happen often, that is the email; but there are plenty of good answers and questions out there).

To each is his own; everyone has their own opinions and views about the questions and answers that are posted here; some questions and answers make sense to some people, some questions and answers make no sense to some people. It is totally a persons priviledge to give these items a thumbs up or down. This site is only for fun and great way to not only voice your opinion, but hear the opinions of others. Don't get so upset and stop taking everything so personal as if it really matters if a question or answer is rated low. What's going to happen? Afraid of getting arrest by the YAHOO POLICE? Pleazzzzzzz.........

Just relax and have some FUN!!!!!!!!!

I only give thumbs down if the answers are just flat out wrong or if they are rude or not an answer to the question asked. I also give thumbs down to questions that are rude or incomprehensible. It irks me when people give thumbs down for answers that they just simply don't agree with. I gave an answer the other day to a music question regarding the name and singer of a song and I was given a thumbs down even though it was a CORRECT answer. Doesn't make sense to me. Either people are just downright mean and hateful or just have nothing better to do.

I only gave thumbs down to about three answers but don't do it any more because when I do, the answer disappears. And if two or more people have given a thumbs down, the answer gets kind of squashed into a box with no text.

This means Yahoo! thinks I don't want to read "bad" answers, but this is wrong. Of course I want to read the bad as well as the good, to get a more interesting and entertaining all-round picture.

For me its a way not to read offensive or stupid posts, the thumbs down is also a sign of politics people thumb down veiws they do not like.

I wonder if the republic can survive the internet w ehad a way to seperate things in the past now we can see and read the most offensive material on the earth to some degree against our will.

I thumb up witty and truthful answers, and thumb down those which are either derogatory, or just pure lame.
I just think acknowledging good answers is what a good answer rightly deserves. If nobody wants to exercise the options, they might as well have Yahoo abolish it.

I don't thumb up or down 'randomly', I do it with a purpose. If an answer is rotten to the core you bet it gets a thumbs down, if its intelligent and thought provoking, a big thumbs up. I never do it for the way (power) it makes me personally feel..bump!

No.
I give thumbs down if I think it is bad answer.
I give thumbs up if I think it is good answer.
What I don't like are the anonymous "reporters".
My e-mail is visible and my IM is visible.
Unlike many other users of YA .
And they tend to be the ones that post the disruptive, imflammatory, crude posts.
The trolls
