My 4 month old son has had mucous in his stool for weeks and weeks, sometimes with a tiny amount of blood. His pediatrician is well aware of this, and believes it to be an allergy to something that I am eating, since he is breastfed and he is gaining plenty of weight. I cut out dairy, the most likely culprit, over 2 months ago, and he's not been fussy since then, but lots of mucous and a bit of occassional blood continues. He still poops 6-8 times a day... anyone have trouble with this before? I'd love some feedback. Thanks!

Look for any hidden dairy in your diet. Read labels.
It can take 10 days to 3 weeks to eliminate cow's milk protein from your system, so unless there is some hidden dairy in something you are eating, you should be clear there by now.
Some of the most likely suspects are cow's milk products, soy, wheat, corn, eggs, and peanuts. Have you tried eliminating any of those other things?
Try working with a La Leche League Leader and/or a Lactation Consultant.

Could be virtually anything. One mom I know ate only deer and some weird grain I can't even think of the name of and I think rapini when breastfeeding.
You could try a proper elimination diet where you start with basically no foods and slowly add things back in. Or drop wheat and sugar and see if that helps. Or all organic food as some babies react to pesticides (watch your water too, I never recommend distilled water but if you have a very sensitive baby). However your baby is growing and happy so it is up to you how far to go.
Also some doctors believe 4 months isn't too young food allergy testing (done via a blood sample).
Best of luck, hope you figure this out.

I would get a second opinion, 1st off if he poops 6-8 times a day, this is extreme. Secondly occasional blood is acceptable, if he has been constipated, but for 2 months, this isn't normal. I would have another doctor check him, or take him into the ER when your docs office is closed.

You know, I was on a really limited diet (no dairy, wheat, nuts, soy, broccoli, spicy food, etc.) and it really did help my son... HOWEVER, the pooping 6-8 times a day, and the blood concerns me. I would get a second opinion.

It might be something else you're eating, you'll have to play with your diet to find out and give baby 3 days with each change.
