do you want for or against?

For gun control:
In countries with strict gun control there is much less gun related violence. E.g. clearly fewer school shootings. If the parents don't have a gun sitting in their cupboard ready to be used most kids won't figure out easily where do get one from.
Also less danger of accidental shootings if there are less guns around.
I think the bobbies in England stopped carrying a gun and somebody figured out that the risk for a Bobby to get shot actually went down. If the criminal knows they are not going to get shot they actually seem to be less inclined to shoot first and rather run first. Though I've never seen the study, only hearsay, so I don't know how accurate the rumor is. But you probably can figure that out.
Also I think there are studies that guns in the home end up to be used much more rarely in defence against a burglar situation than are involved in accidents or murders by people living in the household. People with no or little control over their temper seem to use a gun if it happens to be around and shoot their spouses or friends and think about consequences later.

against: owning a gun seems to give some people a sense of security (or of being macho)

For gun control:

Not everyone knows how to properly use them - potential owners should attend mandatory seminars/training

Some people are too temperamental and/or irrational to own a gun - potential owners should pass psychological evaluation

Two countries with strict gun laws: Japan and Australia; both have very low murder rates

Brazil and many other Latin American countries have lax gun laws -- murder rate is extremely high

Gun control before WWII and the inability of people to defend themselves.

23,000 (and counting) US Gun Laws and no discernible difference in crime

Countries without gun laws (some require gun ownership as part of civil defense, Switzerland I think, ) and their crime rate vs USA

or contact www.NRA.Com sure they will have copious amounts of info.

Gun control laws (should or should not) be mandated. Evidence proves that gun control laws ( do or do not) impact the rates of murder or violence committed with a gun.

If you are a gun control advocate and I'm a supporter of the Second Amenment rights, let's put signs to that effect in front of our houses and see who gets robbed first. :o)

I'd rather have a gun and not need it then need a gun and not have it.
