Yeah, so I went in to the doctor and she measured by son being the size of 32 weeks, but I am only 28 weeks. She said it could be the way he was laying when she measured me or that it could be the fluid around him. She said he is not in any danger and is just fine. I just want to know if anyone else has had this happen and how your delivery went. Did you deliver early at all? Thanks a lot Moms!!!

it can be normal. some babys are tall too. She is measuring from the outside. This is basically the size of your womb, fluid, baby, EVERYTHING. They do this by the size of your belly. suposidly the measurement goes from the top of the pelvic bone to the top of your uterus. The inches is suppost to be how many weeks you are. This form of measurement is not always acurate. I would mabey give yourself a week early, but not more than that. Don't worrie, it will all be great. I would just think that your baby was pushing his legs out and causing the top of the uterus to be taller. it would not be hard to push up a couple inches. congrats

I'm much earlier than you, but have had the opposite happen.

I am about 14 weeks now with my first, but when I was 9 weeks I had my first Ultrasound done, and she said that according to her measurements, the baby seemed to only be about 5 weeks along. She said it's not a big deal, just probably a miscalculation with the date of conception, etc. since that's not always an exact science.

It may just be a little "growth spurt" though - I wouldn't worry about it. Some of the other posters on here have some good tips - it might be due to gestational diabetes or perhaps it's just the angle of how he was when she measured him.

Good luck!

Yep, Growth spurt, or just a misscacualtion of the days. I think you'll be fine. If you are sure about your last period date then go off that, it is most reliable. Ultrasounds and the techs who perform them are not without error. Keep counting as 28 worse case scenerio you go into labor at your time, and deliver a happy healthy baby. or go over a ton and have an induction or c-section which are fine to do aswell, as long as baby and you stay happy and healthy every thing will be fine.

Agreeing with person above they said my little one was going to be 9.5lbs and tuned out to be 6lbs 10 oz at birth, not deliverd early, and was happy and healthy, but ultrasounds can be off by alot!!! now i would give it a happy medium, and say your 30 weeks. Then you arent to early, and arent to late, but ask the doc what your due date is, he(or she) wont change the documented due date unless they are sure of it being older than it is.

I had it happen with both my pregnancies. It's not hard science, but a best estimation of the baby's size.

In both cases, the OB estimated the size to be bigger than they actually were - both estimated over 10 lbs so I ended up having c-sections.

The first was almost 10 lbs, the second was only 8 lbs. I think BOTH could have stayed in longer.

Sure. Happens all the time. It's just a fast grower. Sometimes they deliver early, sometimes they have to do a c-section if the baby gets too big.

It all depends on the position of the baby at the time they measure. No need to worry.

You could just be having big baby or they could have miscalculated the conception date. Pregnancy is not an exact science. I have know lots of moms who'd babies were larger than expected, a different sex than expected, etc. As long as you know the baby is healthy, I wouldn't worry.

I am diabetic- which as most know makes for big babies and big bellies... I always measured big. It just means your little one is plumper than most his age!!
