Go into Control Panel, System, Hardware Tab, Device Manager Button.

Click the plus sign next to sound, video, and game controllers.

Delete your sound card from the list. There are probably other soundblaster related items here, you could just delete them all.

Some devices require you to install the drivers first, you might want to do this again before reboot if this was the way you originally installed it, otherwise, just reboot and you will either be able to install the drivers later, or it will already have them.

The computer will go through the new hardware found process and allow a fresh start with that piece of hardware.

You can try doing a system restore to a date at which the sound was working; you can also go to Device Manager, uninstall the device (it probably has a red "x" beside it in the list), then re-boot the system; it will believe that it has found "new" hardware, and reinstall the driver.

If reinstalling the driver does not bring back the sound, the card may have died and will need to be replaced.
